What a fantastic project to undertake. When will you start racing Pete ? Goodwood etc ??

And there was me feeling all smug because I fitted a new coil to my car yesterday, and the old one is in perfect working order !! hehe

As an update I’ve also spoke to James today and he’s going to be sourcing a 250 GTO gearbox and clutch plus the actual open gate shifter, plus 250 GTO blue comp seats. I’ve also asked to repaint the car in triple layer yellow to match my Speciale Aperta and Pista Spider, plus it’ll have the tricoloure stripe. The interior will be changed to black leather too as yellow paint with crema leather would just look wrong.
Who makes the engines Pete? Is it a brand new Ferrari engine built to that cars spec? I assume so. And how much power does it make? 275?

Is this your green one getting redone? Or is that another car I’m thinking of?

What an incredible project. Given their expertise and the fact there aren’t too many other people that could undertake that work I think that labour rate is really pretty good. £150k on a brand new race spec engine in a period Ferrari doesn’t actually sound too ridiculous....I’d have guessed more. From what I understand it’s pretty common now to take out the original....worth too much to the value of the car to risk racing.

You can't just drop in the biggest / most powerful Ferrari ^^^^^ engine into a classic racer and expect to be accepted

at period race meets.

I assume that's what the F40 engine post is about.

No you can’t, it has to be period correct, I’m dropping in an engine from a 1960’s Ferrari 330 LMB with a 250 GTO gearbox and clutch. And as someone previously said, most classic racers don’t use their original engine in fear of blowing it up under too much stress.

Yep, change is good and I think it’ll look really nice, and if I don’t like then I can always just get it painted back to green.

No different to what happened in period when they were raced. Nothing to stop him changing it back at some point, its only paint and metal.

With this little project and the Singer DLS you're going to have quite the road and track resto combo.

Perfect weekend would be a schlep across Europe to the track in the Singer, kiss Miss World goodbye, have a Marlboro and a glass of champagne, helmet on, Ferrari fired up...Go!!!

145 grand for an engine, thats a different world, always thought engines for Rally Escorts like the Millington Diamond were a lot of money at 20/30k but 145 grand, wow.

Is it so expensive due to rarity ? is it a new engine built from scratch or a rebuilt and modified original ?

There's a 550 Maranello on BAT with a 6 speed manual gearbox. Can't remember if you are still after one.
