Houston, we have had a problem.

One quick change of the battery later and all is well.

Fitted this today as well.

Not to everyone's taste I am sure.

Ah that is a point, I assume the key charges from putting it in the slot? My old 3 series didn't have comfort access so never really thought about the key batteries as they we charged whenever I drove the car.

I think so, but the battery is just a normal 2032 battery.

I have a China made red button starter on my car, it adds at least 25hp.

Carried out a few jobs on the car today.

The PAS reservoir has been sweating and misting for a bit, it seems to be common on all BMW's. A few seal was bought for £2.10 and fitted today. The old seal looked out of shape so hopefully this one will be ok. I rubbed some of the hydraulic fluid over the seal. There is still plenty of fluid in the reservoir but I may top it up a little when I find the fluid I bought for it.

I also replaced the rear boot trim as mine was damaged around the boot latch. I decided to buy one that had a 12v accessory port. I wired this in and it works when the ignition is on. I may look to change this and try and wire it on a permanent live with a switch so that I can leave a cool box connected when the car is off.

Glad to hear your keeping her . Can’t say I’m a fan of that start button but it’s your carlaugh I heard the e63 AMG mentioned hands down one of the worst non event cars I’ve ever bought for myself just very bland , tried fobbing it off to my wife. Should have known better she’s worst than me. Lasted 6weeks took 10 weeks to get shot

Haha, I didn't think it would be to everyone's taste. I still have the original one though smile

Hmmmm, I'd like to know if the F10 M5 is just as dull, but it is moot now as I am keeping it.

If it's anything like the F13 M6 coupe my father had....yes. Incredibly competent, quiet, comfortable and a wonderful GT car. Fun, however, it was not. Engine was biblically effective but very dull.

That is my concern. The S85 V10 makes glorious sound, probably the best sounding engine I have ever owned, and was 50% of the reason for the buying the car. The other was because it is a V10, and no great story ever started with "so I was in my 3 cylinder Fiesta when...." hehe

The F10 would make for a better daily than the E60 (mainly due to the gearbox) but in no way is it exciting. If you were going for something newer and turbocharged then an F80 M3/4 would be a more exciting prospect.

Maybe it's just me but I've not driven a single modern turbocharged car I've liked, not even a GT2RS... I can't see myself ever not having a V10 5 seater in my fleet!

Too right, mine is technically my daily as it is my only car, but I use rentals for work or work at home, so mileage is really low these days.

I managed to get up to 25 mpg average on a very dull drive into Norfolk, but then it needed a litre of oil. If it's not one fluid it's another haha

I don't think that I have ever managed get that much out of it. I use it for work sometimes when I need to.

If I could afford to have it done and be without being able to use the car then I would speak to you about it more.

Great read and glad it's sorted now. My strategy would be to keep it until values creep back up and cover the cost of your rebuild. Either way you've got a sorted M5 for £50k less than it was new. How does the mpg compare to your old E55?

No unfortunately not. It always sits at that when fully warmed up. I use 10w50 oil in it as requested by my engine builder.

Maybe when all the dogs are gone or lots of them have been written off with engine failure.

If I keep it until June 2021 I'll have had the warranty out of it if nothing else.

I got your email, I'll be in touch.

That does seem very warm to me although it won’t be accurate. I always monitor temps as spikes can show up high friction/ metal metal contact ? I don’t really understand the logic in running the 10w50 I would swap back to 10w 60 see if the added weight reduces the temp slightly ? Probably nothing but always worth a check on top of that I’ve started using liqui moly cer-tec engines much smoother on start up makes up for the 10w60 in some ways while giving you the high temp protection . Just my 2 pence worth laugh
