Whatever you do, don't go Red Stuff. they are more of a race pad. Go Green Stuff fast road. I'm intrigued to try ATE ceramic pads but can't justify 100 quid for a set of Mondeo front pads! Have you flushed the ABS unit? I do a fluid change every 2/3 years on long-term cars and it's always on the priority list on cars I buy as rarely is it done to schedule. Never used anything except Dot 4 but that's not to say there isn't better stuff out there, however, these are diesel daily drivers not used in anger. I will say cheap pads and discs are utter ste!
Already running Mintex discs and pads, Greenstuff are recommended for hot hatches/lighter cars, Redstuff are more aggressive but better for a heavier car, or so all the sites tell me, as for Diesel Dailies..........., you have no idea just how hard I drive Rio do you?!?!?! Why do you think I did all the suspension mods and the remap???Bobberoo said:

Why do you think I did all the suspension mods and the remap???I've got a buddy who uses Yellow Stuff on his MK5 GTI on track days and seems to rate them. I have to say the OEM brake feel in the Mondeo is great and for a 250k car handles so well for 1700kg! That's its biggest downfall is the weight (and the 40 profile tyres)
The brakes are OK in normal use, I admit that I have no idea when the brake fluid was last changed, I've owned Rio since September 19, so I doubt it was changed for a while before that, the fluid is high on my list, as are the 15 year old rubber hoses!!! The pads are more of a wanting a more aggressive bite!!!

Get some HEL lines, their quality and customer service are top-notch, they made me a set of lines to fit AMG brakes to a Passat Not used the Motul stuff before, once you get a half-decent one that's compatible with 3/4/5.1 you'll be golden. I know what you mean about the bite and I find that drops away once the pads and discs are half worn. I put up with it as I can't abide throwing away half-worn parts for the sake of it. The Passat brakes are all new and the bite is savage. I bought the Mondeo in November 2019 and the back brakes are 100% original (for now), pretty much everything else underneath has been replaced.

I fitted 345mm R36 discs (MTec drilled and grooved) and made an adapter to fit Brembo AMG 4 Pot (to fit under 17" wheels for winter) from the front of an (I believe) C43 AMG Mercedes. I was going to go 6-pot but I'd have needed to upgrade to a (hugely expensive due to the magnetic brake light switch) Audi RS3 master cylinder to cope with the extra pedal travel.
I fitted them under a set of 18" Champion lightweight hollow-spoke wheels from a V6 Phaeton and sat that with some KW Variant 2 Inox-line coilovers.
That car is sitting waiting for a time when I can get into it, I've got a full 4x4 conversion for it from a 3.2 and 2.0 TDI as I modified the engine to make 240bhp and now it just spins the front wheels All from a 1.9 diesel...
If I had to list the modifications I did to it it would probably take a week, it used to be my daily but it was too nice for that and covering 600 miles a week was ruining it.

That is a seriously ambitious conversion!!! Kudos to you for undertaking it all!!!
Time for a nupdate, Rio continues to entertain, we went to the Mercedes Benz World Sunday Service on Sunday where he was sandwiched between a white Toyota GT86 and a blue/green M2, had an entertaining drive up where I chased an M3 and a Mercedes of some description, I'll not post up speeds but it was north of three figures by some margin.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to roast me.
Peanut went in for a service and MOT and passed with no advisories!!
She is now on about 28500 mile's, and Mrs Bobbers still loves her!!
Rio passed 90k on the way home from the Sunday Service, that makes it 21k plus since I bought him in September 19!!!

Bonjour mes amiees!!!
Tis I, Bobbers, returned from Ooop Norf, or, Just above Harrogate at a lovely place called Nidd Hall.
Rio did us proud completing 519 miles on 42.66 litres of fuel, which is apparently 55.28mpg, not bad fir a 15 year old modified Ford focus!!!
We had 3 lovely nights in a historic room with a four poster bed and a great view, pics below for anyone interested.
Today we took Peanut to Arundel where we had a wander around and some lunch, on the way back this happened......

Well there's not much to report to be fair, other than a decision has been made about braided brake lines and new brake fluid, Rio is booked in to the same garage that did the remap for fitting, flushing and fluid change on the 21st June, and I've finally settled on a track day, Abingdon on the 07th of July!!!!
A Peanut update!!
So this weekend saw us head to Broadstairs in Kent via Scotney castle, a National trust property, then from our hotel The Yarrow in Broadstairs to Dover castle and back, then to Bateman's, Rudyard Kipling's house back home!!!
As national trust members we try to find properties to do whenever we go away, and as Scotney was on the way to The Yarrow, a hotel with a fascinating history it's self, we stopped off and spent a few hours there!!
For anyone who hasn't been to Dover castle yet, I can't recommend it enough, amazing place with a huge history and a major role in WW2, it's a big hilly place though, so allow plenty of time!!!
We decided to take Peanut, not only to give her a decent run, but as we're away six times this year we thought we'd give Rio a break!!
She did the 352 miles without any issues, being not only comfortable but surprisingly capable down the twisty A and B roads!!!

Sounds like you have had a nice time. I'm a National Trust and English Heritage member, Dover Castle has been on my list of places to go for years. So this weekend saw us head to Broadstairs in Kent via Scotney castle, a National trust property, then from our hotel The Yarrow in Broadstairs to Dover castle and back, then to Bateman's, Rudyard Kipling's house back home!!!
