That does seem very warm to me although it won’t be accurate. I always monitor temps as spikes can show up high friction/ metal metal contact ? I don’t really understand the logic in running the 10w50 I would swap back to 10w 60 see if the added weight reduces the temp slightly ? Probably nothing but always worth a check on top of that I’ve started using liqui moly cer-tec engines much smoother on start up makes up for the 10w60 in some ways while giving you the high temp protection . Just my 2 pence worth laugh
I want to keep my warranty, I do not want to be paying for another rebuild, and if 10w50 is what Mr VANOS tells me to use, then 10w50 is what I will use. Any deviation from that will invalidate my warranty.

I do 5k oil changes.

It's always ran around 100 degrees, even before the rebuild when it was running on Liqui Moly 10w60. 10w60 is really too thick for our climate.

Mine sits at 100 when up-to temp too (10/60), obviously higher if on it for sustained periods, but in normal use it’s pretty much on the mark.

Last year when it was super hot (it was 44 in NL - the carbon roof made it miserable inside for the a/c) it sat at 110ish for the journey up the motorway, normal service resumed when back to normal outside temperatures.

My E92 M3 always sat at 90 in normal use. It would go to around 110 if I was being daft though.

Yeah 100 is about normal for these, that is what I have always believed tbh.

Hmm, could have had a cooler thermostat, or just didn't get as hot as the V10.

Not my car, but glad to hear the old girl is getting a stay of execution given the work / money that has gone into keeping it on the road.

Cheers. I couldn't really afford to take the bath that I would have to if I sold it. At the moment it is getting the cheap add ons or necessaries. It isn't getting big money spent on it if it doesn't need it.

Yeah, mins sits just under the 100degree mark. A quick Google suggest that our American cousins say 210f (98deg c) is normal for them. I always thought that BMWs ran hot by design, my 335i certainly did.

Next time I have it out I'll check it on the on board diagnostics for the temp.

Stats are set to 79c as standard but can rise to 100/110 with more aggressive hi load driving I only ask as non of mine running at a constant 80
-90mph for 15 mins reach the 100 there always 80/85 wondering if this is to do with the lower viscosity oil ?

Mine has a standard stat in it, but others use same oil as mine and are the same.

Maybe the viscosity , I’m not saying either is correct just little curios as it wasn’t a spirited run laugh

It doesn't really change on a spirited run either.

I'm glad you kept it a friend of mine has just bought an M5 with rod bearing failure but he's done so because he's sourced a Dinan 5.8L stroker kit.he's also talking to Gintani as they now do a kit that means you can fit the DCT gearbox.

I'm not sure I am hehe

Gave it a run out to Caffeine and Machine on Sunday just gone, used half a tank of petrol lol.

It'll be interesting when your man gets his car done. I know Gintani were working on a conversion, not sure if it is 100% working yet.

biglaugh that's one of the reasons mine went (when your almost standard M5 is drinking more fuel tha your 700+bhp SL you begin to question your purchase decision) in the end, Gintani are saying they've got it sorted now (& they're running nigh on 1000bhp) & I've seen some of the videos of him sending it & it looks amazing.

Ah where's the fun in that?

It'll be interesting to see, I bet it's not going to be cheap!

I've already said to my mate that getting the hardware to marry won't be the big issue it'll be getting the two talking to each other that'll be the PITA, the stroker kit on the other hand is proving to be sensible money.

Yeah, I don't think it is straight forward.

I've been looking at stroker kit'd M5s on youtube but they all look to be similar in performance as a standard M5. This either suggests that the cars aren't any quicker (which must be unlikely) or that the cars aren't stroked (likely).
