Lovely car.
My uncle had an m6 and I can still hear the v10 howl!
Don’t think I’d have the balls for one though after reading your troubles!
Just out of curiosity, why are we not allowed to name companies in circumstances like this? Forum rules or potential for litigation?
My troubles are quite unique and are unlikely to happen to anyone else. The M5 community on Facebook and M5board are well aware of this company and as such it is unlikely that he can cause any further damage.

The naming and shaming will be to stop potential legal action. It is unjust in many cases, including mine, but c'est le vie.

Back home now. Covered just under 1100 miles in total since the engine was rebuilt. Car hasn't missed a beat.
Sorry to hear your story.

Are you saying parts of the engine were deliberately damaged?
That is exactly what I am saying.

Plans for this weekend involve giving it a good clean both inside and out, change the interior lighting for an LED kit I bought ages ago and maybe fit the wheel spacers that I bought before the engine had its crisis.

I need to do some coding as well, such as coding out SOS system as it keeps telling me it has failed. I also want to code out comfort access and keyless start.

Glad to see your enjoying the car now. These cars are great fun. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another at all. Don’t really see many on the roads these days either.
That they are. Going down the A55 yesterday heading home there was a guy in an E61 non M5. He clearly loved the sound of my car as I kept getting several thumbs up from him. It is my Civic duty to make people happy with V10 noises hehe

Yes, it definitely is! laugh

Last year I was going to see my Mum and just before her road I have to go under a railway bridge. I always drop the window and nail my Z4 Coupe if there is room, but that time I was following a V10 M5 and the driver nailed it - I couldn't hear my car! rolleyes

So thanks to him and to you. thumbup
hehe at least you still got some audible pleasure!

The car is now booked in to my indy to have the oil and filter change again, then after that it's 5k changes.

Gave the car a clean on Sunday. Spent over 5 hours on it which still wasn't enough.

Cleaned the wheels, gave the seats a clean and then treated with care balm, snow foamed the outside, washed and polished.

WOW what a read! Cant imagine the pain you must have had at the outset.... However good to see you have done such an epic car justice! You can beat the V engined M cars......
Cheers Rhys, it's been a lot of pain but hopefully now there will be some gain.

Iirc you had a sunburst red rs1600i? How are you finding M car life?

Good to see you’ve got this back now and it’s singing and dancing as it should be cool

Sorry I’ve only just caught up with this thread properly.

Small world, we’re down on Anglesey currently. Here all week, Saturday to Saturday, but had to come home yesterday (only Preston) to attend a family funeral, so come back this evening.

The A55s a great road, some great tunnels too wink I saw x2 E60 M5s on the 55 yesterday afternoon as well, genuine M5s as they sounded superb. Got a thumbs up from one of them too for my touring, as we were side by side for a while, due to a shed dragged losing his shed on the roundabout as you get to the tunnels... muppet lol

Hope the car now pays you back in dividends
Nearly. Just a few more things to before I am fully happy.

My condolences, I hope it went as well as these things can.

I was tempted to pop to Anglesey but didn't really have the time. I could spend a week out there and not do everything we wanted to do. Some great views from the top of Great Orme.

I saw one other M5 while there, it was going in the opposite direction to me, heading towards Rhos on Sea. Always good when you find a like minded person on the roads.

Cheers, I hope so too! Enjoy the rest of your week away.

Nothing new to report. Car is booked in for oil service on Wednesday for a 1200 miles change.

Ordering new fuel pumps, filter and associated fittings tomorrow as well.

I have some ideas that I want to do to the car. There are bits of trim I want redoing in alcantara. I want the steering wheel retrimming as well as it is looking a bit worn.

I had an M6 when it first came out. Amazing engine- one of the best I have ever owned.
Here is an old vid I made of taking it up to maximum speed........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTMKkPxei0I
Nice, they do quite well at the top end these.

..

I've just ordered a pair of front tyres as I think they're slightly out of shape due to a wobble I get through the steering wheel. It is a shame as these tyres had a fair bit of life left in them, but it is what it is. I have gone for trusty Vredestein Ultrac Vorti's. I like Vredestein tyres and had used them many times since 2013.

Pleased to hear Mr Lewis sorted your car. He's very studious I everything he does including racing his motorbike. I've spent an enjoyable trip abroad or the uk with him.
Yeah he's a good guy. He had the unenviable job of sorting out the mess. Nearly 1200 miles in and it's running fine.

I asked you some posts back if the car had been deliberately damaged. You said it had. Sorry if I missed it, but was there any come back on that?
Not currently. The issue is proving it.

I was pleased to see this come back to life and especially pleased to see Mr Vanos is the hero of the tale!

My brothers engine let go (at considerable speed) and the quotes for rebuilds were from the worrying ebayers £6-8k, to the £16k plus VAT at the well known specialists.
He bought a replacement low mileage V10 which has been shipped to Mr Vanos for the bearings to be done, the car is following up in a little while so that the new engine can be installed

As it stands this looks like it's going to be £6k - 7k hit which sounds better than the iffy rebuild or the full price quotes from elsewhere.
Cheers. Someone had to be the hero. He was glad to see the back of my car though, he didn't like the reason why he was doing the work (good money after bad etc, which is admirable).

I did consider the 2nd hand engine option, but the costs for labour etc to have it fitted worked out not much less than it was going to cost for a rebuild / new crank. Is your brother on the FB M5 Group? Good that he is getting it sorted.

Question - once all the big issues have been fixed on an e60 M5, at say a £10-15k cost, does that mean the car is good to go for another 80-100k miles?
I'd say 60k for the bearings, only because they are a known issue. Clutch as well maybe, depending on how it is driven. The car should still be good for at least 30k miles when I eventually sell it.

Are the rod bearings on the V10 such a common issue or is it one of those things that can affect some but most are fine?

Only asking as I'm researching whether to go for a M6 V10 or a CL63
They're an issue on all cars at some point, but they're a relatively inexpensive job if done before failure. Some high miles cars are fine - I know of a few that are over 100k and not been changed.

No he's not on FB or any forum, I normally get asked to go digging if any info is needed but I might just join that myself for any future info.
He'll be glad to get it back as he loves the car and has owned it for what must 7 if not 8 years now, once the engine is sorted he's on to get the bumpers done to tidy it up
Ha, the forums and FB can be quite "interesting", so perhaps he is best off out of it hehe

Just ordered new fuel pumps, filter etc. Another £440 down the drain...

New tyres arrived today. Vredestein Ultrac Vortis for the fronts.

Also found out today that BMW has issued a recall for the E60, sounds like battery cable related.

Is it across all years? If you have the recall details I'll pass it on, ta
The dealer's don't know much about it yet, it was announced today I believe. Best thing he can do is to call his local dealer.

Amazing. The fking thing won't start this morning.

It turned over, caught, ran lumpy and then died, as if it was out of fuel. I suspect either fuse, relay, lower on fuel than the gauge shows (1/4 tank) or pumps.
The car ran fine on Wednesday and gave zero indication that it was going to do this.

FFS.
