The car played a blinder on the trip to the Highlands yesterday

Easy journey; average of 74 all the way; most of autopilot

259miles from door to door on 1/4 tank! That’ll drop now we’re up hear as more A road driving, more so the The Cairngorms etc

For the first proper long distance drive, it was super smooth & comfy and bags of torque when needed for overtaking on the M6/M74/A74/M80/A9 etc

The 18” RFT winters have surprised me re their comfort; but I’ll still be fitting non-RFTs when it comes to the summer tyres (torn between Conti PremiumContact 6s and the usual Michelin PS4s or PS5s (although the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti’s are available in the 18” sizes I want for the 18x8 summer alloys I’ve bought) - So some thinking & reading to do there

I like the Asymmetric 5’s on my 335i and the 6’s on my other half’s 125i. Although in the wet, I still prefer the PS4’s I had on my previous 130i.

Dan; glad to hear the car performed well on the recent trip and is now back to working as to should after the hiccup.

They review well and are a chunk cheaper than Michelin’s.

Yup… They are neck & neck with the PS5s on Jons review on tyrereviews.co.uk and that says a lot!

It’s a long time since I ran the Goodyears, so will be keen to see how these go

Prices for comparison were £160 a corner for the Goodyears, £202 a corner for the Michelin PS5s…

That’s a lot of change!

I was looking to go down the Michelin route but having done that before, keen to try other premium tyres

The Contis have always interested me and we're a bit cheaper again than the Asym6s...

But having found them on My Tyres, decided to give them a whirl...

Alloys should land next week, same with the tyres. So will get them dropped off at my pals when they do and he can marry them together without damaging the wheels

Yeah, that’s a decent saving. Equally there GY are barely any more than Kumho’s now, so putting a slightly posher tyre on the 125i was a no brainer.

The road trip and week away to the Highlands got cut short unfortunately; we all ended up with a rotten chest infection and it's still trying to wipe me out now...

Should have been back tomorrow, but we came home Wednesday and todays the first day I've left the house (albeit to clean both the cars) That's about as much fresh air as I can take without coughing myself inside out

Anyways; Racing Jazz fully washed and cleaned inside & out; then onto the touring...

Poor bloody thing got covered in all sorts of salty ste on the M6/M74/M80/A9 etc... It's been deep cleaned inside & then it's had a full BH snowfoam session, I've gone over the panels with GTechniq W6 Iron & Fallout remover, rinsed, snowfoamed again, rinsed, hand washed, rinsed, AGs Polar Seal applied and then towel dried...

Tyres treated with Gyeon Q2 tyre gel and parked it up the drive, out of harms way

Cheers for the comment. This silvers really nice with a slight hint of blue. Reminds me of a previous Honda Prelude BB8 I owned that was Iceberg Silver Metallic. Was a superb colour

Yup. There's grit all over the roads here still, piled up against the kerbs etc... Like you said, we need a few days of decent rain to wash it away...

Think I'll run the winters for a few more weeks unless it really warms up and then fit the new wheels

It’s been really mild here the last few days although it looks like the nights get cold again this week which means even more grit being chucked down. Joy.

My new-to-me OEM BMW 18" alloys landed today...





Tyres should land Friday & will then take them to my pal who refurbs alloys for a living to get the tyres fitted & wheels balanced

They're OEM BMW 18" Style 405Ms in Satin Black with OEM BMW TPMS - straight set of 18x8s, so fitting 235/45 18" tyres all round

Will update with pictures when they're all together and Gtechniq C5'd and ready to fit

What makes you want/feel you need an xDrive?

If you haven't already, test drive one as their more 'wollowy' due to them being on softer suspension

Live in a pretty rural area, down an unmade lane, uphillon way out, single track C Road approaching it. 600 ft above sea level and prone to snow in winter. Thinking a rwd car would not be ideal.

Hah; yeah that'll do a good job there; xDrive on winter tyres should be well suited to that!

We're surrounded by untreated country roads, unloved all year and then a nightmare over winter; but always run winter tyres, so. touch wood; haven't had an issue so far & that includes many trips to the Highlands too
