I've been looking for a 5 GT Turbo recently and they all seem to be knackered or being sold by dealers at silly prices. I'm sure there must be some decent ones left!

With work, this could be rescued:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1988-RENAULT-5-GT-TURBO-...

This one looks a better bet:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/renault-5-gt-turbo-89-00...

These cars really have suffered the worst excesses of the Max Power brigade. Especially when you consider that most R5 Turbos on sale now look like something from the pages of that dire publication, whereas every other hot hatch now has recovered (look at the old Fiesta RS Turbos, 205 GTi's, Clio 16v's etc etc, most look fairly standard!).

Second one looks good. Do you know if the side decals\stickers are still available?

Great looking car. Its really nice to see one as standard as yours, was waiting to see someone pick up on the tailpipe but imo thats an acceptable mod, not a dust bin and looks tasteful.

The only car that Ive always wanted but never been brave enough to have bought one. Mates had them and the second they did anything to them it was problem city!I'd love a really early one or a Raider

£200! Jeez, that's a lot (relatively speaking). Such a shame there aren't more helpful decal manufacturers to pick up making these sorts of things.

There were two phase two's last year on 4 Star Classics totally mint, completely standard a light blue one and a grey one,one sold for 15k one for 10k,crazy prices and considering that they were sold after a short time makes you think collectionists/enthusiasts are really after them.

Never seen an unmodified 5gtt myself, props to the OP for both the cars.

I had 3 as a youngster, and still my favourite hot hatch of all time.
I've come close to buying a few times since, but these cars were poorly built in the first place and most are in need of a huge amount of work. The fact that many of the original parts are no longer available new, and the poor condition of most second hand parts has put me off every time as I fear not being able to return one to original condition without considerable hassle.

If only that volvo hadn't pulled out on me without looking in 1996, I'd probably still have my Raider today grumpy

I've got a 90's 911 turbo now, but still miss the 5 GT!

RIP

That's lovely. I went through a few hot hatches in the 90s, Astra GTE, Escort RS Turbo, 205 GTI, etc but never had R5. Came close to buying one a few times and regret I didn't. I agree with poor build quality comment though. I think these and the Fiat Uno Turbo were probably the flimsiest.

I used to get a lift home from a guy in work who had a red F plate one many moons ago.

As a wet behind the ears 16 year old i was utterly in awe of the acceleration of these things.

Red R5 is a stunner!

Nice to see one in that condition.

The blue Raider is very nice too.

I know a girl who has had a few of these, think she has a red one with a daft power engine in now.
