Wow that's amazing! thumbup

Plus it brings back great memories for me because my Dad had a White 1982 X reg XR3 when I was growing up. I used to just sit in it and flick through the owners manual to get to know it that bit better. smile

Enjoy it. cooldriving

I learnt how to drive in an XR3! My then girlfriend's dad bought one new and kept it for years. Come 1985 and she was allowed to give me private driving lessons (amongst other lessons!), good convent educated girl that she was. Redhead too! I used to thrash it around Delamere and all those great Cheshire roads.
My old man (a copper), couldn't get his head around the fact that I had one driving lesson before I passed my test. Never told him the truth to this day!

Well that is fabulous. What a great job of restoring the old girl you're doing.

And as others have said, what you'll end up will be worth one hell of a lot more than what you paid. Although it seems like you want to keep it?

I hope so. Much better when a classic ends up with someone who looks after it properly, rather than it being kept in an air-conditioned box with a cloth over it as an investment.

My old man sold the carb models from new.

On one of the first test drives the customer manaded to get the bonnet to fly open when reaching three figure m.p.h.

Great car by the way, looks right if you know what I mean.

That is indeed my old car, unfortunately I moved to North Devon to a house with no driveway or garage so had to sell her, I sold it last May to a local guy to me in Berkshire then so looks like it’s changed hands a couple of times in the last year, I was the 3rd owner and it had 63,000 on the clock ( apparently original according to the previous owner but not proven), it still ran on 4* petrol when I had it.
It’s good to see the old girl back to it’s former glory and being treated the way it should be, I’m glad it ended up with someone who will look after it and obviously spend the money on it that it needs, would love to see more pics of it (interior etc), keep us all updated as you go along

Always preferred the MK3 variants to MK4 version of the same car i.e XR3 instead of XR3i and series 1RST to the series 2.

It looks bloody awesome in shiny red. Very retro.

Just bought myself a 1.6 Ghia (Y reg) in Sunburst - needs a bit of welding but is otherwise pretty solid for a 37 year old car as well! Prices have indeed gone a bit silly but I managed to get a decent deal I think - it's not an XR3 though!

Well done on all the work, it looks amazing. I remember getting a lift in one of these when they were new and I was about 8. I was blown away by the digital clock above the mirror and what, at the time was a quick car. For some reason the XR3 reflective panel where the number plate should have been is still stuck in my mind.

Lovely car.

I’d have kept totally standard but understand why you would want to tweak it.

Are they bike carbs?

Interested to see what you gain- other than a lot of noise, extra thirst & compromised driveability...

Bike carbs work great on crossflow.

Did these run a crossflow? I thought they used the CVH which weren't as tuneable.

Was it not the injected cars that ran CVH?

I'm not sure though.
