volvo 740 retro brick....

One of the guys in work has put his twin cam on the road again for the summer with the good weather. Absolutely stunning condition. Funny to think only a year separates the 2 cars….yet they couldn't be more different in character, and I'd imagine very different people bought them new!!
^^ That's a great advert!
My old man had one of these, an '86 740GL saloon. Solid doesn't even begin to describe it, in 13 years of ownership nothing broke or went wrong. The only parts ever replaced were the regular service items..
Ironically, he replaced it with a Renault 11 TXE Electronic, which rattled and creaked and broke down on an almost daily basis.

That's a blast from the past! I had a D reg Corolla GT identical to that nearly a quarter of a century ago! It was fabulous! When they came out a director at work showed up in a 760. I took it out to run an errand, and stuck my foot down. Feeling disappointed thinking "these are supposed to go a bit" I looked down @ the speedo, then I realised just how fast and comfy the thing was. (at least compared to my Cortina and the Cavalier SRI pool car)
Absolutely love this. I was born in 1981 and I remember these fondly from when I was a kid, I can still hear the quite unique noise they make and the way the exhaust exits, they really are a very unique shape! I am sure my dad brought a company one home once, a green one with brown interior if memory serves me right (circa 1986-87)Great to see a low mileage one in good hands, cant remember the last time I saw one on the road.
Pulled the old girl out yesterday after an extended storage. Needed the brakes freed up, a new battery and the tyres blown up but got a good clean done and a good few miles and it's still looking/driving like new.
Having recently driven a couple of similar age cars from the 80's it's amazing how modern the Volvo feels and how comfortable it is at higher speeds. A very underrated machine in their day. I've taxed it today as it will benefit from 1 or 2 thousand miles stuck on it.
