Yet another rescued E36 328i M Sport project...
Discussion

This car goes into storage in the New Year... Will be worth a lot of money in a few years time.
You really think so ? I can`t really see why at all. M3`s seem to be desirable, but this is just a 328i The car looks good, but I don`t see it increasing in value enough to justify having it sat in storage.
Saying that, what do I know.

I don't want to get into a discussion about money spent vs what its worth... As I clearly said at the beginning of this thread: "its about rescuing a decent Beemer" and "there won't be many of them left in the years to come".This car WILL be worth more than I have spent on it! Just that, if I finish renovating it, I then have to decide whether I put it to one side - just getting it out on weekends - to avoid running the risk of some idiot 'pulling-out on me' at some side road, and T-boning it, as I drive it to work...

If you don't mind a trip up to Norfolk, I can point you in the direction of some people who will supply and
fit manifold and do you a very good ECU map for somewhere in the region of £400. I know my E36s mate, I run 3x 328i at the moment. PM me and I'll pass on the details. Can vouch for the quality of the remap. You can get a K&N 57i with heat shield for about 130 if you buy at the right time (they are frequently on sale at ECP)
How do I PM you? Let me know, and I will look into your suggestion further...fit manifold and do you a very good ECU map for somewhere in the region of £400. They are going to paint all the ancillary parts tomorrow - bumpers, mirror covers, spoiler, side-skirts, the replacement slam panel, etc...
If I can 'sneak-off' work again tomorrow, I will try to get some more pics...
The car then has to go through four hours of 'polishing' the lacquer to make it like glass. Amateur job indeed!
Then they will spend another day putting all back together, also ensuring that everything they originally stripped off still works...
Gonna be scarred to drive it home - in case some 'school-run-mum' slams into the back of me at the lights, while arguing with her child...

What was it that 'Ecsy' said about the 'amateur' job done by the body shop guys?...
Granted it looks alright in a spray booth under bright lights. That means nothing. The prep was all wrong, priming up to masking tape leaving a solid line to try and flat back. The amount of filler lashed onto the arches. Maybe they had the kid doing it all? Also, you wondered why they'd glass fibered over the arches, here's a theory. Their welds looked st, big blobs on top, looks like not much penetration. When you grind them back up they'll probably be piss weak which is probably why all that st was plastered over them. I'd be able to weld them up and grind them back so all they need were a slight skim of filler, not all that crap layered on.
Like I said, amateur hour.

The 'blob welds' were initially used to tack them into place. They were then ground-back and then contiguously welded along the seems to complete the repair...Like I said, amateur hour.
Now go away and spoil someone else's project!

I think, all things considered, I prefer yours. Can't wait to see how it looks when it's all back together.
Mr or Mrs LanceRS - I prefer mine too... Just know that this person has a very naughty, if not rough, Beemer...Don't think I'll be bothering to challenge him at the lights - even after my engine update...

Well...
£100 for the M50 325i inlet manifold.
£70 for the conversion kit.
£300 for fitting - around 3 and a half hours labour.
£200 - £300 for the remap.
£160 for the cold air induction kit.
That is, realistically - £830 to £930...
Sorry dude, but you are way-out / very hopeful!
Just managed to get hold of a manifold, and will get all of the above done towards the end of the month, when I will have the cash!!!
£300 for fitting?! £160 for a CAI? That's where you're expense is coming from! The car is so easy to work on, in 3.5 hours I could comfortably take the engine outand put it back in,let alone fitting the inlet manifold!£100 for the M50 325i inlet manifold.

A couple of hours away, if I was closer I'd offer to lend a hand over a weekend to get it done.
Much closer than Norfolk! If I gather all the parts, would you 'genuinely' be interested? I'm a carpenter by trade, and therefore a very practical person... And what about the remap? Don't fancy sleeping in the car though - no matter how much I love it!...Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
