Every time I see your thread OP it gets me searching for a 250 or 265. Lovely looking car you have and I may be in the minority in thinking the blue wheels just work!
Are there any major issues with these?
I test drove one a few years back after having taken out a Focus RS. Just didn't seem as quick to me as the Ford offering. Maybe I should give one another chance.

They're pretty strong, and well built. The only main issues seem to about brakes going through standard pads and the optional Recaro bases started to creak (which mine suffered from) Other than than, pretty good. And built well too. Are there any major issues with these?

The trophy is the pick of the bunch, the std 265 is brilliant, especially with the cup chassis (adds a proper LSD) and still goes.
You can pick a brand new Cup-S via a broker for some real good prices at the minute!

Love this car, very tempted to get one myself.
I have to say I feel the same - it seems to be a stunning package. I've not driven one and my only concern would be size (just me in the car means I like a smaller footprint).I was looking at RS Clios (the previous version) to replace my DD (a nice, low-key-but-not-driver-centric VW slowlo). Not had a proper hot hatch and have the feeling that such a car could be the ideal DD for me in terms of thrills / cost / practicality Venn diagram. That said I don't do many miles so something more exotic always tempts...
Just don't tell 'moose I have vague hankerings for a FWD hatch with four cylinders and FI!
Oh feck.
I didn't even go for the ohlins and I got it up to nearly £29k!
Metallic Paint
Recaro Seats
Alcantara wheel etc.
Akrapovic Exhaust (£2.5k!)
Still great value next to Golfs and the like. And I'm sure you could get it at close to list with those options. Skip everything but the paint and you could be in for less than £20k with some serious haggling - even allowing for francophone residuals, that is insane value for a driver-oriented performance car.
The fact you can spec ohlins from the factory just makes me smile every time. the Trophy R must be nuts.

I was reliably informed recently that they're actually wider than a GTR But you don't feel it. I've driven mine hard on some pretty tight roads and I had never worried about it's width. If you're near the South West I'll happily let you have a look around mine, and take you out in it! Diesel Meister said:

The only things I want to do to my RS is retrofit the Öhlins and the Akrapovic to it. Although, even the standard exhaust is great, popping and banging in sport mode! I didn't even go for the ohlins and I got it up to nearly £29k!

The only bit of advice I would say is, keep away from the 19" wheels, they look great, but they add to the cars already firm ride. The 18's are much better in this sense. Plus they're Matte black, and Matte Black is cool!

Thanks for the offer, very kind indeed - I'm actually in the SE (for my sins) but occasionally down in South Wales / Bristol area to see friends The only bit of advice I would say is, keep away from the 19" wheels, they look great, but they add to the cars already firm ride. Re. Spec, I agree on the wheels - smaller is better in my view. I mean I still think 18s are huge for a typical road car (mine has 15s!), even if typical road cars are bigger these days. I was also thinking the most important options are the seats, Ohlins and Akrapovic - I could live without the alcantara (nice to touch but can look tatty are a while) and don't need any gadgets (DAB would be nice but that's it).
I might even be tempted to skip the seats and get something else later (loving M7s pole positions). I'm not loving solid white so would need to pony up for paint as well. I guess that retro-fitting the Ohlins and exhaust at a future date is an option if cash is tight at purchase. Obviously you either have to then keep it a long time or suck up depreciation, but that's the case with practically any new car purchase. I'm just impressed with the fact that for a "boggo hatchback / coupe" base you can spec something so focussed and yet still usable. Sure, it's not a sports car in the traditional sense (i.e. bespoke and built specifically for driving pleasure / performance), but it's just as if not more capable and sporting than many of those in my view, plus you can do all your driving, fit stuff in it and park it in public.
Not sure how you could need more performance on the road and it would clearly be a bit handy on track (not that I find myself there often at all - an excuse to check out Spa from the right side of the curb!).
/wonders off to compare used prices with R-UK configurator...

When looking at buying one new, the essential stuff was:
18's
Red
Nav (R link + RS stuff, it allows you to monitor pressures and oil temp and change throttle mappings, and some more stuff too)
Recaros (worth the £1300 cost!)
Akra
Climate pack (adds Auto lights & Wipers)
and a few other little things. I got it to around 27k, and DriveTheDeal had it for 22k. The dealer couldn't match it so I looked at used ones.
The one I have now was up for 17k back in December, looking on AT and that now, the nearest costing RS with Recaros is over 20k, with similar mileage and age.
I ended up with:
Black
Keyless
Standard Nav (not R Link)
Priv Glass
Cup Chassis ( A must IMO) An easy way to tell is to look at the brake calipers, grey is STD Chassis, red is Cup. Cup'd cars have slightly wider tires too.
Spare wheel.
Recaros.
Climate Pack and a few other little things.
They drive like nothing I've ever driven, dosile and relaxed (surprisingly efficient on the Mway, I got 40+ out of mine!) when you're not looking to make time, but fun, agile and faaast when you want it. It's not like any other turbo car I've driven where the boost falls off at the top and there's little point going to the redline, in this there is, the turbo pulls from around 2k, right up until the 6.5k redline. It's surprisingly easy to hit that limiter too, as the gearing is quite close when you're up it, so you're constantly going through the 'box, and it's a great one! Notchy, and the gears are just where you expect them to be.
Having driven quite a few cars before settling on this (including the likes of a GT86, Golf R, Golf GTI PPP, Focus ST(Mk2 & 3), Astra VXR, E36 M3 and a 335i this was the only car that left me wanting another drive of it. The others I was focused on whether the deal was right, whereas with the Meg I was constantly thinking "I want another go in one" and that ultimately swayed it for me.
I always look at it in the carpark at work and think "even in subtle black, it stands out and look so cool! I love it, best car I've driven and owned, and it's already got under my skin.
My OH, who appreciates my love of cars but mainly sees them as A-B machines (odd exception) said that it's a car that gets under your skin" and "It sounds nice when you're hoofing it, and every time I get back in my/another car I always think that the seats are crap, but the Recaro's in your RS are just brilliant".
It is one of those cars that you can easily dismiss, but all of the car reviews telling you it's great aren't lying, they're cracking cars, and I recommend anyone to at least try one.
Thanks B - very useful info / friendly offer
I have been looking at the Cup-S model, which seems a huge bargain, even with recaros and Akrapovic. I think I could live without climate pack and possibly leave the ohlins for later. Would need to be any colour other than solid white (nice but dull). Not sure about Nav etc. - I have a perfectly serviceable smart-phone / TomTom combo where necessary, although tire pressure monitoring would be useful. I shall go and have a poke a round a dealer.
And apologies to Matt for thread hijack. Take the credit with your tasty car
