They never made an A6 C6 with the 1.9 TDI, the lowest is the 2.0 TDI.
If you´d stick another badge on it, I would go for a stupid engine choice like the 2.4 or the 2.7 TDI.

Good work. Did you buy this one from Velvis?

If so, I had a look at it a little while ago, but I just couldn't quite summon up the required courage, so well done you!

"This is a ridiculously discreet V10"

Really?
As others have said, slap a 2.0 Tdi badge on the back and have REAL discrete fun; I know it's going back some years but 'back in the day' when every scaly was making Cosworth replicas using a 1.6 3dr, I did the opposite, grabbed myself a mint 3dr Cosworth and stuck 1.6L badges on it.
Just thinking about how much the first and only probably spent on fuel, it must work out somewhere north of £4600? Phew!
But if you are going to be doing low miles, then you have the same mindset that i do, in that it makes precious little difference (in case SWMBO is reading!) wether you're getting 18, 28 or 38 mpg, you get 100spm (smiles per mile)!
I have to ask the question, is this the Audi gearbox that is made of chocolate?
If so then a gearbox service inc oil, filter etc is probably a wise move especially if you're thinking of having the car tuned.
You, sir, have my admiration, for sticking it to the muesli-treading, yoghurt-weaving Eurocrats who want to emasculate our motors!

I did yes. Really nice people to deal with and clearly car enthusiasts so it was definitely one of the better buying experiences!

I don’t know if it’s summoning up courage or just blind naevity!

Fortunately that badge is under the bonnet, exterior wise it has the V10 logo on the wing and the S6 badges on the back/front grill. Definitely not as discreet as it could be though. RE the gearbox - it’s the ZF 6 speed used in loads of stuff. As long as it’s serviced there are no major issues..... unlike the CVT style autos slung in most of the other C6’s

even with badges still rare, I imagine not a lot on the road, I know I've not seen one before. Enjoy the noise you pay for it...smile

I love the fact Audi put a Lamborghini engine in a estate! I did look at these a few years back, not super fast, but must sound great with the right exhuast.

I will be controversial and say leave the badges/quad exhausts, why disguise a V10, the whole concept of sleepers is overated imo.

Chap I work for owned a slightly older saloon S6 for a while - STONKING car and sounds amazing (his had a Milltek on) BUT you have to understand that they can RUIN you financially (see most Audis of that era and then multiply by several).

His came cheap because it had the usual issues with carbon build-up/needing new inlet manifold(s) - he sourced the parts used (from the USA IIRC) and DIYed those repairs (he works in the trade - it's a BIT beyond home-gamer DIY perhaps).

It continued to throw issues at him which he kept on-top of but it was creeping towards needing a new steering rack and that's a remove the engine and gearbox job which was a job-too-far...

He moved-it-on and replaced it with a breathed-on Scirocco which, whilst it didn't make such a nice noise/wasn't quite the family sleeper, was faster upto 3 figure speeds...

So - whilst that's a lovely car, I do hope someone went over it carefully because you can - literally - spent the asking price of these on making them actually work.

I may be mistaken, but not quite; it's a 5.2 vs a 5.0 and the Audi lump has a longer stroke and a wider bore, giving the extra cc and also better low-end torque?

Haha silly me, thought I hadn't seen the badge n the tailgate!
And good news about the 'box as the others can be pretty shocking (as I found out with one, though thankfully a friend wanted the car irrespective and gave me what I'd paid for it).

May I ask about the wheels? I'm thinking they are standard on the V10?

I've had two. A saloon and an avant. Here's a picture of the avant.

Absolutely adored them both. I'm currently in a D4 A8 3.0TFSI but I'm thinking of selling up and getting back into a C6 S6.

Here's a pic of my first S6 which had recently had a front end respray that my dad decided to use to dry out his pak choi in the sun...

Lovely motor this, don't ruin it though with TDI badges! I'm all for subtle performance and sleepers, but badging it to be something that it's not (even for the worse) just seems wrong. It has 4 exhausts, anyone with even just a passing interest in cars should know it's going to be a bit pokier than a boggo low power diesel.

Thanks for all the comments smile

On the Lamborghini engine... unfortunately from what I understand there is very little shared with the lambo engine at the time. It’s actually more closely related to the Audi V8. Compared to the Lambo it’s stroked and bored but also a different angle (90 I think instead of 80 something).

However Lamborghini did end up using this/Audi’s design for their later V10’s so there is some lineage there. Again none of this is gospel, just what I’ve read from various places.

Re the wheels - they are standard on the S6 and were only available to the S6 I believe

@kungfupanda - they look lovely! Glad to hear you enjoyed them and the running hasn’t put you off another laugh

@405dogvan - I didn’t have it checked over by anyone (except the wife!) however I have spoken to the independent who looked after it for the passed 6/7 years. He said it never had any issues during the time he looked after it (aside from a weeping water pump which was changed ~8 months ago) and it was religiously maintained. The owner only traded it in as he ordered a new replacement. I’m sure time will tell! But currently I’m less worried about it than I was the MPS laugh

So this was my drive to work, I didnt go over 2000rpm;

Bit of an unfair example here as it a 2mile 10 minute drive.

We have just got back from the christchurch way in the new forest (I live in reading) and fully loaded up making good progress up the M3 I we got 23mpg. Around town in stop/start traffic i'm lucky to see high teens. Overall average is currently 19mpg
Summed up by your rev counter, EPiC.

What, like the older chap who owns a gents hairdressers near me, drives a blue CLK55 AMG. Except it isn't, despite the correct wheels, lolly-likey exhaust etc etc but is a humble 230 Kompressor.

Some are easy t spot, to be fair, but some are proper sleepers. And long may they continue to haunt our highways..l

They're a good bunch in there and actually know about cars rather than just being salesmen, which is a refreshing change.

The car is a corker, I am almost regretting my decision not to buy it now!
