Took a drive down to Brands Hatch today to watch the Max5 Championship, some great racing and great weather too.

The MX5 OC also had a meet there too with a few nice cars in attendance

Thanks, didn’t know the OC was going to be there on Sunday, thought it best not to park near the rest of the MX5’s as mines a bit tatty in comparison biggrin

Managed to pick up a OEM front lip for £60 to finish off the front bumper, definately needs a lip to improve the looks, was looking at getting a GV lip but this one come up local to me so decided to give it a go, quiet happy with how it looks.

Before -

and with the new lip

Bloke I brought it off had some great projects on the go and was building an Exocet out of his 5 and also had a 4WD 500BHP Audi TT that looked mental!!

Not sure what i'll do to it next, might just enjoy it for the summer biggrin

Like the way you are 'gently' bringing this car back up to standard...

it is just a thought....but can you stick a vinyl number plate on the front panel between the headlights like the old E Type Jaguar/Lotus Elan ( which was the original design influence of the MX5)

Probably not road legal nowadays anyway, but it's just I am not a great fan of the off set square plates...!!

All IMO of course!

I ran a sticky plate on the front of 3 MX-5s for many years with no issue. Just make sure its reflective background with correct font lettering.

The 'best' place for it actually ends up being over the top of where the existing badge is - above or on the bonnet is too high, below, and its too low and makes the badge look odd.

If you get the plate over where the badge was, it looks just right. Reccomended!

Yeah might look into getting one, would probably make the front look less messy and might cover some of my bad painting lol

Havnt done much to the car lately as its tucked up in the garage over winter, do have a few jobs i want to do while its off the road.

- Going to remove the aircon system as it doesnt work anyway and will save quiet alot of weight in the process.

- Repaint the metal frames around the side windows as the paint is peeling off some bits.

- Aerial is stuck up at the moment as it got bent, so need to source a replacement for that.

- Give it a good service just before I put it back on the road in spring.

One thing I have managed to do recently is buy and fit a TR Lane Rollbar that I managed to get for £170 which I was happy with, some pics of it fitted biggrin

Have recently taxed it and put it back on the road now the lockdown has eased a bit, has been good being able to go for a drive in the sun were having smile

Have managed to remove most of the a/c from the car now just the heavy a/c pump still to take off, what i've taken off so far -

and the a/c delete pipe behind the glovebox replacing the heavy evaporator unit -

Took advantage of the MX5Parts Bank holiday sale and ordered one of there Cat back exhausts and managed to get it fitted the weekend -

Did want to get a video of it on the move but my Gopro battery was dead so just have a quick video off my phone -

https://youtu.be/m1-_ZzCEzu0

Does sound alot sportier now, not too loud while driving just louder when you want it to be biggrin

Get that pump off ASAP - and the bracket that its sat on - they are VERY heavy, I remember being surprised!

When you remove the A/C bracket you will see that one of the bolts goes into the block from the front of the engine. Some people leave that bolt out with no ill effects, others say you may get an oil leak and so it should be refitted. I say refit it.

I left mine out and it leaked massively! At tickover, even on a lift, there was no apparent leak but under load it fairly gushed out.

In the absence of the bracket, the bolt which comes out of that hole will be too long (it will bottom out) so either source a shorter one or cut that one down. IIRC it's about 5mm too long.

Also, when you fitted your A/C delete pipe under the dash you will have disconnected two wires. If you join those together it will allow you to manually switch on the A/C fan (if still fitted) for additional cooling by using the A/C button so long as the blower switch is in the on position.

I actually plan to recommission the AC in my Eunos eventually! Does your fan motor seem to blow out barely a puff at full chat? If I point a vent directly at my face I can't feel it. I have a feeling there's a blockage somewhere or other. I can only tell it's on by the dust flying out of the vents!
