Mine used to really notice the road surface, so try on a different section of road.
A few heavy brake sessions used to clean all the rust off my disks, My rear drums were permanently oval, a gentle pull of the handbrake while brake got the whole car shaking, but the steering stayed straight.
A previous car had seriously oval tyres, and the steering wobble used to be continuous, not only when braking.
How's the longer distance job going?

Wheel shake under breaking could be warped discs, wheel out of balance, buckled wheel or a tyre out of shape, start with the cheapest, get the wheels rebalanced, and ask them to visually check that there isn't a buckle!!!
Under breaking what?Mind you it'll teach me to check before hitting "submit"
