the only way i could really justify it was the fact that DC5 values are going up rather than down...i figured a freshly painted milano red should be worth £££ in the years to come, not many come up, and most that do need paint.

Is that inlet manifold restrictive?

Probably more so than the standard item but it supposedly flows enough for the application.

There’s cars running 400bhp with the same one out there, it’s pretty much the only option if you want to run a top mounted charger.

Tbh I only ended up with it (and this whole stupid supercharger idea) because the inlet and mounts came up on eBay cheap one night hehe

It was all downhill from there!

Back end of a Mondeo! Hard to believe that was 12 years ago! We’re getting old mate! Do you remember that night I raced you off the roundabout at Hayle and ran out of fuel? hehe

Well today was the day to visit Eurospec. A day of slight mixed emotions!

Ben at Eurospec is a top guy, had a look around the car and a discussion about the current (supposedly temporary) mapping and then ran it on the dyno. I knew it wasn’t right and expected it to be down on power, but....

235bhp at the fly rofl

So Ben said it really needs a smaller pulley, a bigger exhaust and a manifold but he would map it now and get the best from it.

In the meantime we looked over this amazing NA2 NSX-R that he has there. It was like I’d died and gone to heaven.

(More pics on the supercar spotted thread)

Then he chucked us the keys to his FK2 and told us to go and have some lunch in Guildford and come back later. Yes, his FK2, his time attack FK2 which is flippin’ awesome hehe

And incredibly subtle. hehe

Came back later and yes, I deffo need a smaller pulley (this pulley is doing just 0.6bar) and really a higher exhaust, manifold etc, but as is he’s tweaked it and got...
[url]

The difference is night and day, so much cleaner reviving, smoother and much more poweful.

Ok it’s not the 320bhp I was told it should have been, but I’m not disappointed!

I just need to decide if I want a bigger exhaust (so noisy), a manifold and a smaller pulley or just be happy with what I’ve got and enjoy it!

Or buy an FK2. hehe

I’ve been chasing a small knocking noise for a while, thought it was top mounts in the front, then the shocks... changed all that, still there... finally found the source, the steering rack!

In the steering rack there is a plastic slider, over time (and more so on lowered cars) this wears and causes play in the rack.

Decided that I’ll get the rack out and fit a replacement, but while we’re there I’ve got a facelift rack to replace mine. Supposedly it’s a quicker rack so just as well to swap it in.

Picked up new gasket, clips, interior parts etc from Honda and I’ll give the rack a bit of a clean up too.

I’m going to replace the slider with an aftermarket item which is machined brass so will be a lot more hard wearing.

I also found a cheap stainless manifold on eBay which we’ll swap in when we do the rack..

and I picked this little fella up for my daughter too. We’ve called him Soichiro hehe

Hi Butterface,

Do you mind sharing a bit more detail about your oil catch can set up please? I've been looking to set one up on my K20 engine (Ariel Atom) as I'm looking to upgrade the power and from reading the various forums it seems that on "boosted" K20's they are susceptible to blow by and increased crank case pressure.

Did you modify or remove the OE Honda PCV set up? I've read that you need to either drill/punch out the centre to allow free flow through it if you want to connect this to a catch can. It seems that as it normally needs a vaccum to open it won't be venting all the time, or at least that's how I understand it. Also, that "vent" on the rocker cover where you had the small filter (same set up on the Atom) is normally an intake INTO the engine according to how the OE set up works. I did find a schematic on the net that showed how the K20 PCV valve etc worked, and it defiantly showed flow back into the valve cover.

Do you have any more pics? Is it just the two lines you have going to the tank? Have you collected much crud in the catch can yet or is it still early days? What catch can did you use?

Also, although I've read your entire thread, I can't recall if you mentioned anything about fitting an engine oil cooler. Is this something you are planning?

Many thanks!

Hi TD

I currently haven’t modified the PCV, but this is on the cards. I have it connected to the catch can at the moment just for the sake of it as previously it has just been venting to atmosphere and it did have some residue on it. I haven’t modified it yet purely because it is an absolute PITA to get to underneath the supercharger and I need to take most of the front of the car apart!

As for he breather on the rocker cover, I hadn’t heard about it being an inlet, I had a small filter on there and it was lagged in oil coming out, with a really strong oily smell.

The catch can I have is just a cheap alloy unit from ebay, 2 ports in, one out, does the job and was cheap!

I haven’t got an oil cooler, I don’t track the car so I don’t worry too much about it but it maybe something I’ll do just for the sake of it one day! I have an oil cooler just behind the grille for the supercharger oil and could possibly fit a second cooler somewhere in there.

Sorry that’s not too much help, I’m not super technically minded, I just try my best to get things kinda right hehe

Cheers Butter Face,

I wasn't sure if the PCV would vent off without modifying in some way, I need to look into it more. My small filter on the rocker cover is "oily" as well so must be venting. Normally they are "fed" with fresh air on the OE setup. I can't find the specific honda set up at the moment, but if you look at this generic PCV diagram you'll see what I mean:

Keep up the good work smile

I've been looking at DC5's for a while, and this has made me jump onto the classifieds and look at EP3's!

I believe i have the same knock from the steering rack slider on my EP3, please let us know how you get on with changing the rack.

If you dont mind me asking, how much was the kit from Honda for the rack bits? I've thought about buying another rack to build up then swap them over rather than taking mine out and replacing the slider.

The boot, internal screw bit, lock ring we’re about £40 from Honda. Aftermarket slider was £40 I think, I’ve had it for a year or so waiting for the time to fit it. Just need to find the time to get it all sorted!

This, along with that video of the Impreza with the supercharged EP3 has confirmed that I'm now after one. I was initially looking for a DC5 as a sort of weekend/track car, and a boosted EP3 is more appealing now.

You can buy mine if you want. hehe

I’m always 50/50 if I should sell it, I know I wouldn’t get anything as good for the money, but I have a hankering for a C63. hehe
