Truly brilliant plan.
Am I way off the mark, doesn't BMW now own Rolls?? This is like a back date to the relationship...
It's interesting how some threads just start off to me seemingly impossible and then at a certain point it just clicks and you realise it's just metal, bolts, wiring. All bundled together to make it work. Not to mention massive levels of skill and patience.

Hi - I left mine in as the ratios weren't too bad for what I was doing. I made up a new propshaft that mated the end of a chevy propshaft to the existing roller one.Struggling to get the crossmember out, got the diff outbut not quite sure what is needed to get it out. Ah ok. I did think about reusing the rear end at first but by the time I have to swap all the brakes and suspension I figured the whole subframe swap is probably worth it. Gives me a wider track too.
Yeah, don't mix and match, you'll have a nightmare. I know the 7 series was heavy but was it silver shadow heavy? If you're swapping the suspension I'd be a bit wary of the old girls girth. Shadow is 2100 and e65 between 1800-2000ish. Assuming the new suspension parts, subframes, brakes and engine weigh less - hard to imagine they aren’t a lot lighter.
I think I should be good weight wise, it’s one of the reasons I picked a e65, they also have off the shelf air suspension kits if I needed the extra height.
The shadow has aluminium bonnet, doors, boot lid which cut down on the weight.

Something along these lines but instead of Nascar below the shell it would be bmw e65. Without the roof cut/shortening. WIll make the chassis from scratch using the e65 subframes etc.

Superb work! I had a similar plan early on in that I was going to buy a rolling chassis from Art Morrison (https://www.artmorrison.com/homepage2.php) and fit the unibody/ monocoque on top of it but the rolling chassis quote ended up being extortionate so I stuck with the existing arrangement.
How're you going to mate a monocoque to a monocoque though?
Also, how're you going to get it past the MOT though?

They wanted $20k+ for a bespoke chassis with suspension, brakes and steering supplied. I baulked at that but with hindsight it probably would have been better than what I ended up doing (and quicker!). You can see that their approach is a very basic ladder chassis rather than the spaceframe style of that Nascar example. It suited what I was thinking as I was going to cut sections out of the monocoque, lower the body onto the ladder chassis and weld the two together so effectively the ladder becomes part of the monocoque rather than two separate structure. You can't really do that with a spaceframe which is more of a body on chassis deal.
In regards to Mot from my understanding it will go for a Iva as a new built kit car using bits from a 2002 bmw for the sake of not getting a Q plate or a 69/70/whatever it is when I’m done.
If I was a little less worried about legality I would just build it, insure all the modifications and ignore the government side as the age makes it mot and tax exempt.
