Can you get a carbon bonnet/roof? Would remove some weight, but also bring the centre of mass down

For the ST3 the book weight should be around 1165 Kg .

I had my ST3 corner weighted last year and it was 1205 Kg when the car had the rear seats removed and running a half roll cage , lots of bracing and a few more thing that will add a bit of weight .

I will look to get the car corner weighted again after i have finished removing a bit more weight and see what it is then as im hoping to get the car down to around 1100 Kg .

So 1200 ish isnt a bad assumption, amazing how much work it is to drop 100 kilos from a car, but suppose like you say, adding stuff in for the track will counteract the weight loss.

I could probably lose 15 kilos myself smile

The first 30-40 Kg is not too hard to fine with batteries , seats etc but as the car is all ready light so finding much more weight to remove becomes more tricky .

Very small and quick update .

I have changed out the stock Ford OEM aerial for a smaller unit more just because i like the look of the smaller unit but it does also save a whopping 293 grams smile

New small aerial .

And we are back with some more weight saving on the car again .

Looking at other parts to change over to light weight units I started looking in to the fire extinguisher I’m running in the car at the moment .

The unit I have been running in the car is a foam type with a gold fire roll bar mounting bracket .

The complete kit comes in at 6.2 Kg .

After looking in to a few options I went with the FSS50 Fire safety stick that is a Potassium powder extinguisher .

And to mount to the roll cage I have ordered a JED engineering mounting bracket .

The complete kit comes in at 230 g .

Then it was on to picking a good location to mount the new fire extinguisher system to on the roll cage and low down just behind the driver seat looked like the best option .

And all installed .

Changing from the foam type with all the mounting brackets to the Fire safety stick has removed another 6 Kg from the car bringing the total weight removed from the car so far to 106.5 Kg .

Just tidying up a few bits that have already been done to the car but not updated on here .

After trying to adjust the Milltek chrome exhaust tips and snapping the bolt I thought that I would look to remove the tips and save a bit more weight from the car .

Some tired looking Milltek chrome exhaust tips .

And removed just running the bare Milltek exhaust back box pipes that I think I prefer the look of on the track car .

The Milltek chrome exhaust tips are a solid unit and are rather heavy and come in at 1.3 Kg each so that is another 2.6 Kg removed from the car .

I'd be careful, I think that might stain/burn the bumper/valance.

I had a similar issue where my exhaust fell off a hanger on track and burnt through the edges of the bumper

Good call and I will keep an eye on this as the car does spit a few flames when pushing on .

The pipes do have good clearance from the bumper so it might be ok .

If ever there was a situation calling out for a few grams of reflective gold heat tape…

..it would even match your engine bay wink

The bright Gold might look a bit too much on the out side for me even if i do love a bit of gold in the engine bay smile

After the heads up from Alex i have order some of the below Magmashield heat shield high temp adhesive .

https://www.textiletechnologies.co.uk/products/mag...

It should look like the below so should stop any melting of any bumpers etc so a good shout there and not anything i even thought about TBH .

Great idea! Should have known you'd only go for the best wink

Everything about your car is amazing - but the way you always put the quote after your reply rather than before makes my head spin!

TBH i did look for something more cost effective but could not find anything .

Thanks for the comments and i really do need to drive the bloody thing instead of keep adding bits to it ( the Mrs keeps on saying do you really need another part for that dam car )

As for the top loading quote style of mine i have never thought about this until you pointed it out so correction have been made and will just need to try and not not slip back to my old ways smile

And yet another update with the car and some more weight saving .

Looking at what other parts could be changed out for light weight items I turned my attention to the front door cards .

After all ready removing the rear speakers I had a good idea that I could remove the front speakers and just use a sound bar for the in car music on long trips and then I also started looking at light weight door cards .

After looking at a few different options I went with some 2 mm gloss Black Track day door cards with GT4 style material door handles and holes for window switch and mirror switches .

Then it was just a matter of fixing the window and mirror switches in place and adding the door pulls .

Then it was on to remove the OEM door cards and front speakers .

The OEM door cards without speakers have a weight of 4.5 Kg each .

The Track day door cards have a weight of 0.75 Kg each .

The front speakers have a weight of 2.5 Kg each .

Then it was on to drilling and fixing the door cards in to place and connecting the door pull latch , electric connectors etc .

And all installed with all window / mirror switches working .

The net weight saving of changing the door cards and removing the front speakers comes in at 12.5 Kg saved bringing the total weight removed so far to 121.6 Kg .

A new wheel must be soon? I imagine a good chunk of weight removing the airbag?

Though, depends whether you want to keep media/cruise control functionality.

No I will be keeping the steering wheel as i its already been changed to a flat bottom / alcantara unit and I also want to keep the function buttons like cruise control / nav like you said .

I still have a few more weight saving parts to fit as soon as they arrive.

With me thinking that I would have enough time to get the car ready for my first track day of the year at Goodwood this Friday I have had to cancel this as I have just run out of time to get the car ready .

My own fault for planning on doing too many jobs over the winter and thinking it would not take that long and here we are in the summer time and its still not ready smile

I have re booked to do Bedford GT next month on the 20/09/21 and also booked to do Anglesey in October 11/10/21 so that should give me enough time to get the car ready .
