So below shows the seat cover with both sides attached and the piping. Making the piping trim is very relaxing tbh.
<snip>
So a little modification and a bit of time later, a better fit has been achieved

The cushion has only been roughly placed on the seat frame to show the pattern lining up nicely with the original still on the seat back.
Lovely work - It might seem an odd question but how does a toolmaker learn upholstery?<snip>

So matching seat back complete. Bit of hard work getting this to fit. So seat cushion is a latex foam. Seat back is a mis mash of horrible bits stuffed behind the cover. Being a toolmaker that is hard to re-use so rebuilding the bolster padding and the webbing took a while. Even now it still needs a bit extra but not a bad for a sample.

So door card cover below I’ve started. The tuck and roll will be added tomorrow and will hopefully give an otherwise plain doorcard a bit of interest but still keep it classic matching the original seat style. Again just a sample to see what it looks like before I start working in leather

So now I’m into interiors, I have a vast choice of colours and shades. As a reference, the rear axle cage the colour cards are sitting on will be the exterior colour. The greys look easy on the eye. The beige and browns look very traditional, the colours could look amazing but I need it to look like what the majority would want rather than too individualist. Also the car won’t have air con. So really not a dark colour or shade. My first idea was a grey. A lighter shade referred to as dove grey. It lends itself perfectly to a matching headliner and surrounds. I could use a violet as piping on the seats to key the exterior colour into the interior? Black dash, black centre console, black carpet and black furflex. Then the biscuit or darker boot leather. That seems to be similar to the retropower xjc so perhaps best not do those colours as I want to show off my work. Then we have the colours, the reds would contrast to the exterior but I think could look angry especially with black carpets and dash etc. So hmmmm dunno really at the moment

For Me MC11 green, traditional and unusual nowdays...........dove grey alas looks like the interior of every silver mercedes repmobile
Very true regarding the dove grey. That green is the unusual choice I was actually thinking of. Would it clash with the lavender paint though?Bobberoo99 said:
Going to be a difficult choice that, a couple of the greys look good, but then so do a couple of the brown/beiges......good luck!!!
I tried ordering an anthracite grey a couple weeks back, was discontinued, I then tried ordering a brown/tan distressed look and that was also discontinued. So yeah, it does feel like a difficult choice. craigjm said:
Makes you realise how difficult it is for OEMs to choose interior palettes when you start trying to do this stuff yourself.
As you know you try to find something unique but not vulgar. Oems are usually safe though. High end stuff shows more variation, and I’m sure they do that to attract those customers that perhaps let’s say they have more personal taste rather than an eye for design.So to be unique hmmmm, I’ve either got to choose an interior colour that was never offered originally or choose an original colour but in a style not offered originally. That’s how I see it. Now I’ve been looking for a vdp rear seat for I don’t know how long but haven’t been successful. The series 3 has a straighter tuck and roll design more noticeable on the rear seat. I might use that design with its front and rear seat headrests. Your xjs seats have horizontal rolls which I was thinking of something similar to my seats but have the roll right the way down the front of the seat cushions front and rear. Just what colour though lol

I’ve chosen my colour I think. Some of the original colours on the C are quite distinctive but it’s matching your blue paint that’s the issue. My black gives me more flexibility with red, green, blue, purple and other striking colours all working. With your paint beyond the standard black, tan, ivory and grey you are probably limited to red or possibly maybe a darker tan brown. Unfortunately for you, if you look at the colour wheel then the best complementary colours to blue are yellow and pink, neither of which you want as leather in your car So to be unique hmmmm, I’ve either got to choose an interior colour that was never offered originally or choose an original colour but in a style not offered originally. I’ll probably end up with the biscuit colour again. Blue and orange works, that’s the Essex in me again
