My driver's side headlight today frown passenger side similar but not as bad. Worth removing the top covers to let them breathe? I doubt they'd dry out unless I use a hair dryer to be honest. I'm away this weekend so no access to do such.
Back when I had an E36 M3 15+ years ago, 'the thing to do' was drill several holes in the plastic covers that go over the backs of (I believe) the bulb holders on the rear of the headlamps. Sorted the condensation out and never had the issue again over a further 3 years of ownership - was a well-trodden path at the time, is this no longer a thing on newer cars?
It is, although with a failed seal water will still be getting in when it shouldn't. Drilling a hole will simply allow it to escape more quickly. It's a bodge and, for example, with washing the car the lights would still fill up with water, then dissipate over days.

I don't want to bodge it for the sake of about £200 smile

Ahh fair enough, apologies I hadn't read about failed seals. Not something I had to worry about on the E36 fortunately, only 32k miles so I guess the seals hadn't seen the amount of abuse and crap weather yours have.

So I've flipped the subframe and given the other side a thorough second coating of Dynax UB. It will be collected in just under 48 hours so plenty of time to cure. I have bagged all of the parts and labelled them so they know exactly what they are, although all part numbers are on there, so a quick search of realoem would show that anyway.

This is going to be a seriously big job.....sort out the cause of EML (likely a coil pack - simple enough), ship headlights off (these guys have asked if I want to get new/upgraded projectors and bulbs - they will send me comparison photos to see if this a road I want to go down - whilst the lights are in bits if there is a notable difference in light output it would seem prudent to do so), full front and rear suspension refresh including new rear subframe, plus fit new exhaust gasket rings and a 4 wheel alignment. This garage don't do a hunter's alignment, so I will almost certainly get this done basically as soon as I get the car back.

Serious amount of work but should get the car driving really well again.

I'm fairly sure once it's back it'll be one of the better driving E9x M3s in the country (world?!). Certainly one that's not modded.

It gets worse..... Headlights people asked if, whilst the lights are in bits, whether I'd want to look at upgraded projectors etc laugh they're going to send comparison photos for me.

No news yet RE diagnostics unfortunately, when the car was delivered back yesterday the chap who'll be working on my car (I know him, I'm glad it's him, he's a very switched on chap) had 4 other cars he was working on.

I gather they want to get the bumper off and lights off soon so they can get them shipped out before doing the other bits.

If they can upgrade the projectors to better ones; think it makes a lot of sense to do that...

I was going to get a guy I know to do that to the Hella headlights on my previous E39 540i as the OEM ones were fine, but showing their age with the light scatter/cut off/beam pattern etc.. The 'upgrade' ones were vastly superior... But sold the car

Yeah I'll need to see costs, but..... In for a penny..... laugh I suspect I will upgrade. Looking on their site they claim over 2x lux output and seems to add maybe £200 or so to the cost, maybe a bit more.

Apparently the EML was on when driving it back to the garage yesterday, but wasn't on this morning when they had to move it......

I should find out something tomorrow hopefully.

It would have been cold when they collected it to drive it back (off for about 21 hours). But yes, I'm pretty certain it's a coil pack.

Whilst I could just replace all the coils that seems a bit too much, I think I'll wait and see if another goes. If it does, I'll then replace the rest. I do want to replace the lambda sensors still, but we'll see what bills in the next 4 weeks will be. I anticipate the suspension rebuild being £0 (the parts having been paid for and me getting free labour), but the lights will depend on projectors etc and need to find out if it is a coil pack and seeing the cost of that fix.

What did you have done?

Chap who's collecting the bits today won't have the space to collect everything, so he's basically taking everything but the subframe. I should hopefully hear more RE the EML and headlights today. Once removed I can arrange shipping to KYCS.

Interestingly, my BMW indy never got back to me with a quote for all of this.....Either they didn't want the work of they've forgotten. Not a good show, either way IMO.

You'll not regret any of it Ross; you know if you don't get it done now, you'll still end up getting it done... So may as well strike whilst the iron's hot n all that biggrin

Ah cool. I'm personally not a fan of the various colours, I prefer OEM look, but each to their own - be boring if we all liked the same stuff! It seems like these guys know what they're doing with the lights, which is nice to know!
