Thanks everyone!

Can I have it, please? hehe

I've just noticed the big hole in the dashboard where the head unit goes. I can't remember if you've mentioned it or not, but what head unit are you going to fit?
It will be McIntosh MX5000. They have a copper chassis, separate 26bit DAC and power source. It's supposed to be one of the best sound quality CD transports around. Fingers crossed!

This detail where you can see the old cup holder doesn't really seem fitting with the quality of the rest of the project... could something be done about the gap? Was a different bit of trim available from a Focus without the cup holder, or something?
I know what you mean. There's nothing off the shelf so to speak as neither the console nor the armrest should go together. As it is at the moment the coin tray behind the armrest is still usable, so I'm happy. I guess taking it further I could have made a bespoke fibreglass insert but it's just the amount of time required to do something like that.

incredible project with an incredible attention to detail, definatley a hats off.

my only thoughts were on the dash, having driven one of these i thought the dash felt like one of the most plasticy parts in it, and with such a high quality interior is there any plans to flock or cover it (might help with sound quality as well)

How does it compare to something like the Nakamichi MB100? I used to have one of them and it sounded great. Im guessing the McIntosh is better?

The MX5000 supposedly has one of the better Burr Brown DAC's, but I should imagine it's a pretty close run thing, all things considered.

Thanks. I could get the dash covered in Alcantara at some stage. I did think about it but shyed away thinking it would be too much. I may revisit that idea later smile

Given you're the second person to raise the point it must have been something I've glanced over smile I'll give it some thought.

Wrapping it in black leather with orange stitching would look superb, Mercedes stylee with the AMG cars.

Could you not fill it then get the centre console and the dash covered in alcantara?

I appreciate the cost of alcantara having had a boot covered in the stuff in the past but it just seems that to not do it on a car of this quality would be a massive let down. Its so close to perfection one little bit extra to make it 100% wouldnt be too far would it?

+1 looking that headunit alone must have set you back nearly a grand so as having owned a mk5 I would certainly get it covered in leather or something as it was horrible and plastically and would let down what is a stunning interior.

Just dropping in to say great build and keep up the good work. I've been reading it for 2 and a bit shifts now and I am gutted it isn't finished I was sure being so long it would be by the time I got to the end it's like renting a film from blockbusters and the disc being knackered half way through.mad I'll keep checking back and look forward to the progress :-)

Amazing attention to detail.

Any chance you can do something similar to the inside of my Puma, including the cruise control please.

Thanks chaps.

Cost is probably around 30k by now, though that's not an issue, it's the time it takes that is more of a consideration. I will be pleased at the end of the year when it's finished biggrin
