Sure is. An experience I'd rather forget. Are you bidding?DanoS4 said:
ouch. how did that happen?
Was that prior to your current 430?
I assumed (duh) that you'd part-ex'd it.
Either way, hope there was no human hurt involved

Yes I thought you were even selling the other one or part ex'd it.Was that prior to your current 430?

I just read back to see if I'd missed the crashed the Ferrari post.
Glad that you are ok though.

Thanks Dan, 3rd party in L2 into my NSF in L3 - span it out. Not really fast enough for anything serious but a thoroughly crap start to the year, hence I want to keep this thread to the project stuff. Was that prior to your current 430?

I'm not bidding. Yet a car brought to that standart should be saved.
How about you put those spare bumpers and undertrays to good use
It's not worth my time. How about you put those spare bumpers and undertrays to good use

Wow, they are even quoting gearbox damage. How did that work then? Did the insurance payout account for the increased market value?
No idea. Last year when coming to insure it I had a moment of hestiation when deciding who to go with, but I decided to pay double the cheapest quote to for a good broker and respected insurer. Insurer paid out without fuss and for the current market value of a manual spider, which of course was significantly higher than it was worth at the start of the polciy. I covered the increase in a previous post and what I decided to buy next.

My son agrees with your choice of a red F430.
Here he is enjoying the nice weather this afternoon in his!
That is awesome! Here he is enjoying the nice weather this afternoon in his!
Glad to hear you were not hurt Mark, and that good experience with the insurer clearly made it worth paying a bit more for!
You mentioned you'll probably re-paint the front bumper when you get it, will you do the whole car and include painting in the stripe when you have all the necessary parts? Will you be adding a 16M rear bumper? I remember it being discussed earlier in the thread but you preferred the looks of the standard back end.
What about the gearbox? I've heard the Scud/16M F1 'box is much faster and more aggressive than the one in the standard car, do you plan to copy this into your car? Is it a software change or actually a different gearbox?

The stripe can be added without touching the basecoat; I'll have the lacquer flatted then and the stripe painted on then finished with another coat of lacquer. I already have the 16M/Scuderia rear bumper and it's already at the bodyshop. Fitting requires the carbon upper segment which my car was optioned with. What about the gearbox? The Supefast 2 system is a modified F1 actuator, hydraulic lines, valve system, and TCU (gearbox ECU). The selector forks in the gearbox were also modified and the ratios are unique to the 16M/Scuderia. My inkling is it is the only system that could really replace the manual, but I'll give the regular F1 system a go first.

How are you finding the F1 box compared to the 'stick' ?
I've only driven it home so far so I need to spend more time with it. It's a late car so benefits from all of the software upgrades made during production, the most significant being for MY2008 which involved a tweak to the ECUs as well. It seems perfectly smooth in normal driving - no jerkiness that I have noticed - though apparently the later cars are a world away from the early ones in that respect. The manual was great for normal driving but got in the way in spirited driving on roads requiring a succession of quick changes. Time will tell if the F1 is quick enough to improve on that but still provide enough feeling of connection for the rest of the time - the bit the manual was great at.
F1 Superfast 2
One of the more exciting updates to date and the reason it was important for me to buy a 2008 F1 car. The 16M and Scuderia feature a revised F1 system with most components modified to achieve a faster shift time. The system is called 'Superfast 2', and where the standard F430 F1 shifts in 150 milliseconds, Superfast 2 cuts that to 60! The important thing for me is it still has a raw, connected feel that is lost with the clinical feeling DCT boxes. I knew it would be the only system I was happy with: https://youtu.be/Zfrq3zkqP1w?t=178
I've been in discussion for a couple of weeks and today agreed a deal to buy the entire hardware system that came from the base car used to build the Glickenhaus P4/5 Competizione Project - http://p45c.com/about/ It's a really nice find as everything is like new having covered just 1,200 miles.
2008 F430's feature a number of electrical revisions including revised F1 TCU software which uses a torque transmittablity curve to constantly vary PIS (slip point of clutch actuation) on engine start. The engine ECUs were updated to work with it and the same approach was adopted by the 16M/Scuderia cars.
There are other software changes too which I think will make the conversion more likely to succeed however this is uncharted territory and I don't believe anyone has completed it successfully; I may well experience some stumbling blocks along the way but working through them is always interesting.
F1-Trac
The 16M/Scuderia features a revised stability control system called F1-Trac, which was originally developed for the 599 GTB. Based on my research so far I require the ABS module, ABS loom, and the E-Diff module - which I now have - to retrofit the system.

That didn't last long It's amazing you got your hands on something that came off the base car to the P4/5 Competizione though, I would have thought all those parts had long since been sold off!
Will you be collecting all the parts you want (at least, all the parts you want for now) and then fitting them all in one go or will you simply fit the separate parts as and when you're ready to?

The SF2 and other electronic systems will go in as a package and form stage 2 - it'll be something to work on next winter. For now the car is pretty much where I want it with the exception of a few bits which I hope to complete before summer It's amazing you got your hands on something that came off the base car to the P4/5 Competizione though, I would have thought all those parts had long since been sold off!

Will the cosmetic changes go with stage 2 or will they form stage 1 and be fitted before summer?
Sorry about all the questions, I love to be nosey
