Been to the Santa Pod main event this weekend and stopped by the arc de Buckingham this morning. Otherwise known as the old entrance to Stowe school.
Full tank of 85L and packed with luggage adds to the dragster stance! Might have to pop the front up by 10mm

The story of this Le Mans trip was fairly uneventful…
Miles covered: a few
Fuel used: All of it… some of it even got burnt before it went out of the exhaust…
Oil used: 1 litre
Speeding fines: 1
Mechanical issues: 0
Electrical issues: 0
Stubby beers consumed: Lost count
% of skin burnt: 30
I travelled down with a group of fellow early 911 owners, not all in their early cars as you can see above for a variation of reasons, mainly that they were broken
Campsite was awesome as ever, just inside the Porsche curves with the spectator banking 50ft from our tents.
The new dash vent was great, obviously not aircon, but just a waft of air to the face was very welcome!
Jobs to do now are:
- sort the wobble that kicks in at 130k, maybe a warped disc?
- retrim the dash as unfortunately the bond between vinyl and surface didn’t survive the heat
Other than that, it just worked Not much of a story but I’ll take that after that rebuild!

Last big trip of the year is nearly complete, posting this from under the English Channel!
4 days in Paris with my Daughter and spent an hour at sunrise on Sunday driving to all the spots to get some pics. This wonderful bridge famous from Inception and other films, Place de Concorde, Monmartre, and of course the tower thing.
This is a quick phone edit but the laptop is going to be busy sorting and editing 500+ pics once I get home.
Luckily it’s a bit cooler going this way as it was a bit grim on the way down!

Amazing thread, Gary. The skill and dedication to get your car completed is truly staggering! I love a classic car in a bold colour and yours looks amazing!
I recently did a trip in this 2.2T which I bought off another DDK member a couple of years ago. I managed to fit 800 of the happiest miles in two days over some of the same Welsh roads mentioned early in the thread. The car runs well and seems solid but this thread has inspired and worried me in equal measure! These early 911s seem to have been built for them and I'm so glad I took the plunge with one of these whilst I could.
I found this thread by chance only three days ago and managed to read it all during late night feeds for a newborn. Sadly, road trips of note will be few and far between in the coming years but it's been a real joy reading about your project.
Car looks great without the trims, no wheel centres and the graphics give a hot rod vibe. Suits it I recently did a trip in this 2.2T which I bought off another DDK member a couple of years ago. I bought my car when my son was 6 months old. Plenty of time yet!
Spent more time at the Pont de Bir-Hakeim and this couple were having their wedding pics done. They asked if it was ok to use the car, more than happy as it make a change for my pics to have any people in!
This bridge is just amazing, you could literally spend all day and night there and not run out of new angles and lighting opportunities.
There maybe more incoming from this lot!
But meanwhile a hotel pic:
Highly recommended and as secure as you could ever want being on a closed guarded street next to the American embassy.
