Hey guys, did either of you ever remove your rear diff and crossmember?

Struggling to get the crossmember out, got the diff outbut not quite sure what is needed to get it out. I have the big bolts on either end and the bracket which they hang off.
Hi - I left mine in as the ratios weren't too bad for what I was doing. I made up a new propshaft that mated the end of a chevy propshaft to the existing roller one.
Ah ok. I did think about reusing the rear end at first but by the time I have to swap all the brakes and suspension I figured the whole subframe swap is probably worth it. Gives me a wider track too.

Shadow is 2100 and e65 between 1800-2000ish. Assuming the new suspension parts, subframes, brakes and engine weigh less - hard to imagine they aren’t a lot lighter.

I think I should be good weight wise, it’s one of the reasons I picked a e65, they also have off the shelf air suspension kits if I needed the extra height.

The shadow has aluminium bonnet, doors, boot lid which cut down on the weight.

Something along these lines but instead of Nascar below the shell it would be bmw e65. Without the roof cut/shortening. WIll make the chassis from scratch using the e65 subframes etc.

Gearbox is iffy, sometimes works other times gets stuck in park. Either low fluid or mechantronic seals, either way a new used box is only few hundred quid so no big deal.

In regards to Mot from my understanding it will go for a Iva as a new built kit car using bits from a 2002 bmw for the sake of not getting a Q plate or a 69/70/whatever it is when I’m done.

If I was a little less worried about legality I would just build it, insure all the modifications and ignore the government side as the age makes it mot and tax exempt.

It might be classed as a kit car conversion though in which case based on the parts used it can get a age related plate. As it will have a brand new chassis built but old parts fitted.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/kitbuilt-v...

"DVLA issues ‘Q’ registration numbers to vehicles whose age or identity is in doubt."

Neither age nor identity would be in doubt as I have v5 for both donor cars which state age and identity.

"Kit Conversions This is where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle, or old parts are added to a kit of a manufactured body, chassis or monocoque bodyshell. The general appearance of the vehicle will change and result in a different description being put on the Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C).A vehicle will keep the registration number of the original vehicle if the original unaltered chassis/monocoque bodyshell has been used along with two other major components from the original vehicle. If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer (or an altered chassis or bodyshell from an existing vehicle) is used with two original major components from the donor vehicle, a replacement registration number will be issued based on the age of the donor vehicle. The vehicle must have IVA or MSVA. The date of manufacture for the vehicle will be taken from the IVA or MSVA certificate."

"You can apply for an age-related number if you can prove you’ve used 2 original major parts along with:

a new monocoque bodyshell, chassis or frame from a specialist kit manufacturer"

Edit: I am not worried about getting either a 72 or 02 reg, just anything but a Q as I can then put a private plate onto it.

Its probably why people dont declare these things.

Easier to just inform insurance and just use the thing. With the age and no mot or tax who is ever going to look at it.

Uh... Ignoring the giant front splitter and wheels I like this in a weird sort of way. Been trying to figure out the wide arch problem and I cant stand the ebay ones (like the matte black drift car has) and rocketbunny type kits look out of place.

So bring in the group 5 cars, these are from the silhouette skyline hence the mental front splitter. The era is fairly correct with them being used from 76-82 which the Silver Shadow was produced during (technically the shadow 2). My all time favourite livery on a car is the JPS Lotus 77 black and gold from 76 which matches the era as well.

I dont know if the big boxy arch works in a mad sort of way. Other choice could be along the lines of Lancia Intergrale and Bmw e30 m3 wide arches but these are more modern.

This was a request on a facebook page hence the watermark and done up quickly without livery/wheels.

This type of look but on the Rolls is kind of what I have in my head.

It has to have some form of fairly wide arch as the track is wider before I even add some sort of dished wheel. This means the front/rear bumpers cannot be used either.

I am open to ideas if anyone has some.

A guy called Supreme Karak on a discord I am on made these for me in his time. Along the lines of this is what I am thinking for the arches.

All this talk of lockdown means I might get more time in the garage.

Just started to strip the front end down on the BMW. I have to say I love modern cars for taking them apart, its just so much easier without all the different sized imperial sockets. 2x torx and 3 sockets has taken apart the front end.

This along with a lot of time at home has me thinking of doing something with an older V8 Discovery and a Rolls, the 'Roller Disco' if you will...
Wheelbase is miles off sadly, I had 2x 300tdi discoverys lay around and they were my first thought but not that easy to do.

Updates should be here later this week, been out the last few days getting everything sorted before we all get locked in.

His 240z using m5 donor is what inspired me to do this.

Love his content, there’s also another guy (can’t remember his name) who’s sticking a new mustang inside of a old one.

Budget is on a as needs base. Reusing what I can from the bmw to cut down on parts, such as using the old suspension/brakes. There’s no real plan for hours etc as I will be doing everything myself.

I’ve always had smaller things on the go but after rebuilding a engine last year decided how hard can it be to just go all out.

No rush to any of it, learn as I go etc.

It wasn’t too bad. I had the car body on stands and the subframe on jacks.

Undid the bolts, lowered jacks to take the tension off, unbolted the tops of the towers then pulled the strings out the top.

Yeh the guy got it abit wrong but for a quick job done via a facebook page I cant expect much more.

In the later picture of the gold one I posted the arches are more realistic for length/dimensions but the style is wrong.

Cracked on for a few hours the past 2 days, its slow going as I have to label all the wires and make sure they all remain intact. I got the rear seats and parcel shelf out too but forgot to grab a picture.

Amazingly the rear boot lid has a hydraulic pump and ram to control the going up and down.
