I'm promised the wheels will be back with me tomorrow, so with the freshly powdercoated backing plates in hand it was time to get jiggy with it...!!!
I'm sure I said somewhere that i'm not aiming to go concours with it, but it doesn't hurt to be clean....
Good old Mr Muscle on the ally bits
The hub face was duly attacked with a grinder mounted wire brush to descale to ensure as flat a surface as possible, I very thin film of assembly paste on the mating surface should resist corrosion for a time and done....
repeated another 3 times and all 4 corners were done.....
The new Hel lines fitted as expected, and then it was on to the flushing and bleeding...
I always flush through with a cheap DOT 4 to fill the lines and do a pre bleed, then it's on to the good stuff.
the only thing left to do was reset the EPB with the aid of VCDS and job is more done than a done thing...!!!
Stay tuned for the wheely good reveal tomorrow night...

is that too much of a tease...????
oh ok then.....
and then the money shot....
The wheels have been waxed and sealed with Gtechniq C2v3 Liquid Crystal, inside the barrels and front faces, will see how well that lasts....
Now just need the good weather again to paint the grill and the rear diffuser...
bloody boils my you know what when people do a half arsed attempt.... do people not check their work thoroughly???
bloody tyre fitters, collected the wheels late Friday and went to put them on, all good.... drove a couple of miles to ensure all was good, all good.
Reversing back into my drive as normal, had a sound at very slow speed like a metal pea being rattled in an aluminium can.... Wheels up, and rotated all of them, NSF was were the "tinkle" lived..... first thoughts were WTF have I done, what's catching.... nothing came the reply in my head, took the wheel off and rolled it about, yup definite "tinkle".... going away early the next morning meant it had to wait until today.....
Wheel off, into the tyre bay... watching them like a hawk so they didn't damage the newly PPC'd wheel..... tyre off and an old bloody wheel weight was rattling around the inside of the tyre.....
Tyre back on and onto the balancing machine, I questioned how they were going to remove the sticky residue from the "old" balancing weight... "We have just the tool for that sir", off he went and bounced back with a wire brush.....
WTF are you going to use that on came my abrupt question..... As if that even touches my wheel you'd need it surgically removing...…
His face was a picture..... Needless to say a small amount of brake cleaner and a quick rub with tissue was all it needed (I did it myself rather than risk the ""fitter"" doing it) and no wire brushes were harmed in the sorting of my tinkle.....

there are just some things you have to have, they can be like little jewels and your life isn't complete without them.....
For me I have been distracted by the inner door handles as fitted to the RS5 and Cabriolets (I think??)….. cheapest place I found them was again at my local friendly neighbourhood Audi dealership....
They were on back order from Germany, ordered Friday, arrived today...…
Simple case of whip the door cards off and swap over...
before
after
one step closer....

the neighbours will think you're weird going out at dusk just to lock and unlock your car... they do make a hell of a difference...…
The vibration on accelerating around 70mph is baffling, with the vehicle up in the air (so wheels at full suspension drop) there is absolutely nothing wrong. So I thought today i'd drive on some ramps and have a look underneath with the suspension under load as though it's being driven. Again, all suspension parts are tight, no obvious issues with bushes...
However what I have noticed, the drivers side driveshaft... whilst in the air, so it is extended there is no movement, when on the ground and the suspension is compressed there is significant play that would cause an oscillation when rotating... In all my years of quattro ownership I've never seen a driveshaft like this (I've had bad CV joints before). Passenger side (this being exactly the same as the drivers side driveshaft) shows absolutely zero oscillation.
So, new driveshaft ordered and will see if that eliminates the issue....
In other news, I've ordered a cruise control stalk as I miss that and the S5 needs it.....
and as it was sunny and I felt like washing the thing, I also dragged the bike out to introduce her to the S5
fingers crossed the driveshaft cures the vibration.....

well I can happily say my vibration is gone, no more.... one is a happy one...!!!!
my inner cv joint was fubar'd
this time I didn't buy it from my main dealer....
Audi's price was £478.00+VAT
I found a brand new driveshaft in Germany that was 50.24 EUROS delivered to my door. It even has a 3 year warranty.
If it only lasts me 10,000miles it's still a risk worth taking, and certainly worth the risk to see if it eliminated the problem.
Ok, it's bare metal and not painted as nice as a genuine one, do I care? nope.... as my vibration is gone.....
3 days it took to get here from Germany. Shame the cruise control stalk I ordered from a shop in the UK couldn't be as good. Excuse after excuse as to why it's not been delivered and i'm still waiting 12 days later... I'll see if opening a case on Ebay will stick a rocket up the cock wombles ass to actually deliver what I've paid for.....

well finally my cruise control module stalk thingy turned up today... cock womble made good... why do some make it hard work?
What was nice surprise was it was a face lift set of stalks...
my first thought was "oh bugger will they actually fit and work?"
i'm not going to document the "how to change..." as there are enough of them about but other than the airbag connector being bloody tight to refit it all assembled perfectly.
I modified my cowl to fit, such is my OCD nature I want a proper cowl so am now on the hunt for one of them....
all fitted like a glove...
Plugged the computer in and cleared all the codes, recalibrated the steering wheel sensor and did the Steering wheel module and Engine module coding to accept Cruise Control and all done...!!!!
That's another job ticked off the list

well after a few failed attempts at finding a decent 2ndhand cowl for the cruise control retro fit... I thought i'd see what a new part cost....
£36,00.... I was amazed at how cheap this piece was..... ordered, fitted and another job signed off.....
I'm starting to get together a list of parts for doing a complete carbon clean, so it will involve taking the inlet off, whilst that is off I want to refinish the cam covers (I fancy the red as on the RS5).
and i'm itching to make a start on the exhaust, parts are also being accumulated…
I want to drain the gearbox and rear diff of fluids at some point and refill with something better, I've had good results with Redline MT-90 gear oils in the past, so need to see if that is still applicable.

so with the new driveshaft ordered, delivered and fitted and the vibration now firmly consigned to history it came as a huge surprise to have a knock at the door last week and a courier stood there with another box.... questions from the OH as to what i'd bought now came a blank from me...
Dragged the box in and low and behold i'd been sent another driveshaft... so now my 51 Euro driveshaft was even cheaper as I'd got two for the price of one...
So if the new one fails, it has a 3 year warranty and I have another to replace it with whilst I send this one back (if it fails) for replacement...!!!

Lovely car and like the work you're doing .
thank you... some aspects will take an age.... like the exhaust, as she is a daily i'll struggle to take her off the road and do in my leisure, which means i'll need all the parts to hand before strip down and then will need to be made in one hit.... long hard slog doing that as BTDT... some would say why not take the easy route and just buy one....!!!if I did that I wouldn't have made it and it wouldn't be unique
but parts are being sorted and ordered... bought a gasket at the weekend so I could draw up in CAD the flange that bolts the CAT's to the manifolds, this has been ordered from the laser cutters....
all other pieces are sorted and I know what spec I want to make..... if you think i'm nuts raise your hands lol... but I do like making exhausts....
This was the manifold I made for my Fireblade
4 into 1 collector
slip joints
and then out the back end
plus many others over the years..... once done I can then remap and get the full benefit of it.....
small project to tick off, the subwoofer on the rear shelf distorts and cuts in and out, following the lead set by others I found this thread
https://www.a5oc.com/forums/audi-a5-s5-tech/94345-...
I won't repeat what's said there but I've gone for one of these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pyle-PLPW10D-10-Inch-10...
ordered Sunday night and this turned up today
very quick service from the dealer....
and what's inside the box....
wasn't surprised to see a "Made in China" what isn't these days, looks well made...
onto fitting, rear shelf stripped out and new sub offered up, when placed in the opening from above the cage just catches the opening, so it will need fitting from below.
On the opening on the metal shelf there are 3 holes already, on the sub there are 8 mounting holes, so only one would actually line up. I am happy to redrill the metal shelf and i'll insert rivnuts so I can do all the fitting from within the boot.
The only downside to that is my rivnut gun is at work and i'm not.....
Stage 2 tomorrow night...….

OP epic build here - bloody talented
lol thank you... i'd say more a miss spent youth and my people skills are abysmal..... but also been lucky throughout my career working in places which enabled my skills to be paid for and having facilities.... These days it takes a little longer and now senior management and spend most of my time behind a desk but I enjoy the excuse of getting my hands dirty...!!!
got home early to get to stage 2.....
sub fitted
I unravelled the wiring loom so I could wire up as per this diagram
I cut the plug off leaving enough of a tail "should" I ever need to go back to OEM
Yellow and blue went to the positive, white and yellow went to the negative and then I bridged the other +/- wire some audio speaker cable I had.
Interior all went back together without a hitch.
onto testing.....
(insert the biggest, smiliest smiley you can find here please)
I've always liked the factory B&O, having enjoyed it in my previous A5 and the same in my S5 but I can honestly say this is the first time I've ever felt the bass.....
time will tell how well this £30 (to be fair it was on offer and normally retailed at £55) "cheap" sub lasts but it's not the hardest of jobs to replace....

Well they do say once you go black you never go back.....
A chance purchase of a genuine S5 Black Edition grill made me a very happy boy. This for me was the much preferred route rather than painting the front grill as I know from experience that the paint never lasts long due to wear and tear...
So in between short showers today had the car sat in front of the garage awaiting surgery
as she left the factory, genuine chrome....
it just fell off honest Mister....!!!
love it...!!!

As said, my exhaust project is a slow burn project and it has to fit in around the real life stuff of work and actually using the S5 everyday but i'm happy to show bits and pieces along the way...
Things like the silencers will be bought items readily available, I'm going to use Magnaflow silencers as have used them a lot in the past with very good results.
Things like the flange to mate the downpipes to the exhaust manifold are not available, so are drawn up in CAD and sent as a file to the laser cutters to be made.
Starts like this
The parts arrived Friday and i'll stick a pic up of them when back in the office
All other joints will be V-bands, again it starts as a CAD file which is then sent off for machining. I prefer to make them as a male/female part as I've found they seal much better
and then the x-pipe, this starts as 4 individual 45 degree cut mandrel bends which are laser cut and then welded to form the X-pipe
So, it's getting there slowly.....
