Jaguar X308 XJR
Discussion
Well, I have been tooling about in the car for a while now since all of the work has been finished and I love it.
Wafting about, well it is a Jag so is the master of that craft.
But when you put the footdown, oh my! It's like the ghosts of 1,000 Spitfires are unleashed as you going into warp drive. I almost expect the stereo to start playing Rule Britannia whenever the Sports button is pressed.
It sounds great with the stainless exhaust too, which is on the civilised side of fruity.
If any of you are thinking of getting one, do it, they are absolute bargains at the moment.
Oh, I am going to keep the BBS wheels as they have really grown on me. I will need some new tyres soon, though
8cylinder - I will look out the number if the paint shop.

The love affair continues. It really is a spectacular machine.
Had a nice drive this morning tip toeing around in the frost, enjoying the Jaguar-ness. Can't wait until Spring so the car can come out of hibernation proper.
Great run this morning via McDonald's:
It's a dangerous place, though. Last week I was drawn there in my Sovereign.
All roads lead to McDonald's

I recently picked up an XJR late last year. What a car so much for your money. and the power for such a heavy car, really impressed. i thought about doing the larger crank pulley mod for a bit more power but decided it isn't really necessary.
It did need a little welding on the front shock mounts but otherwise very solid, i also had the front subframe mounts chaged as they had completely split, when i hit the brakes hard the front of the car would jump up and bang. fortunately the mounts have a metal bracket around them which limits this, im assuming it is a common failure.
Otherwise a great car, surprises the boy racers when they think there gone dust me at the lights!!

Bought one of these in one of those 'That looks cheap' eBay moments. I'd always wanted one and after paying less than three grand for it, I spent over three grand over the next twelve months trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. It was never going to be a nice example and after it let me down a couple of times more, it had to go. Had I paid the money and bought a top notch example in the first place, I would probably still own it now. For the money, nothing else gives the same combination of grace, comfort and pace.
I own a 2000 April model XJR V8 which I bought with 18,600 miles on the clock.
It was a Jaguar test car and had been tested to the limit as I found out to me cost. Fully loaded (steel electric roof, automatic headlight sensors, auto sensor windscreen wiper, etc).
Sadly I had to have new brakes at 45,000mls ( looks like they have done 80,000mls said the engineer and one had virtually soldered itself on!).
then at 96,000 I had to have a new engine. Nikosil was the cause even though the engineers claimed it did not qualify, after £9k and an exchange engine, I found from racing green that the VIN numbers confirmed it had been fitted with the dreaded Nikosil coated pistons that had disintegrated!
The Sat Nav still points home to Browns Lane Coventry, no longer Jag HQ!
In spite of the fuel cost, with 116k on the clock its road holding and acceleration on a French motorway always puts a smile on my head as does cruising at 70 on a motorway with the roof open and windows down on a warm day.
Great car, worth a pittance, and I believe a future classic if looked after.
Somehow the new Jaguars are not so serene and stately and just do not tempt me away from my XJR with number plate 5 MPH , that makes people smile!

Back from another great run.
They really are marvellous cars, and amazing value. Get one and get the tensioners and gearbox oil changed, and the upgraded pulley fitted, and you will have a robust fast car that should be problem free.
The only problem is somehow, mysteriously, the car always ends up here when I'm on an early morning run.

That's a year I have had the car now, and it contines to make me smile every time I drive it,
In planning on keeping it for a long, long time, so am about to give replace most of the bushes (I did some last year).
Also, I want the body to be 100% perfect. I got some paintwork done last year, but I am going to get brand new front wings for it so it looks totally perfect. Not cheap at £420 each before painting, but worth it.
The Michelin Pilot Sport tyres I recently got fitted are great too. Quiet and great grip in the wet and dry.
Had a great afternoon at Scotland's Secret Bunker today. Highly recommended.
