The problem with the Golf R (to my mind) is its a bit boring, it goes very fast but there is no feeling, you may as well get a 1.4 model and drive slower. The mlite has better driver involvement and therefore, satisfaction.
This. Very this. The Golf R / S3 / Cupra R are basically the same car as well. I'm sure they're great cars but they do little for me, the main attraction of the M140i to me was the 6 cylinder engine and RWD drivetrain.
Happy days! I bet you can't wait to collect it. With reference to the nonsense that Yipper posted any car can become unstable or loose control if there is a nut behind the wheel....
my dad was looking at an M2 but after driving the M140 he ended up ordering one, and we ended up selling the Boxster GTS we co-own because he wasn't driving it anymore!!
I drove one and thought the engine was stonking, the chassis felt nice and fluid and the brakes were very good. Congratulations on your new car and I hope you have loads of fun with it.
I wonder if I can persuade my fiancée to chop her car in for one?!? I can but live in hope....

That sounds really promising. Definitely looking forward to collection day. I've still not actually driven one yet hilariously, they didn't have a demo when I ordered. I had a brief <10 min nip out in an M240i convertible, but I didn't really get to "drive" the car or push it due to the built up area of the test drive.my dad was looking at an M2 but after driving the M140 he ended up ordering one, and we ended up selling the Boxster GTS we co-own because he wasn't driving it anymore!!

I can feel lunch at the Hartside Cafe coming on for Monday lunch
For anyone else buying, I'm probably telling you the most obvious of all, however this is my first financed vehicle, which brought about the world of GAP insurance. BMW offer barebones GAP for around £500.
I've been able to sort replacement vehicle GAP with a much higher level of cover, for £240 with a 10% discount code from the BabyBMW forum. I won't link incase it's against rules, but they're a forum sponsor so easily located on the board.

I test drove a Cupra 290 Black after selling my N54 335I it didn't come close to comparing to it and left me feeling rather cold. The Golf R / S3 / Cupra R are basically the same car as well. Every BMW I've had could be a bit of a pig when there's a lot of standing water around, so you do need to respect them to a degree and adjust your driving to suit the conditions, no bad thing in my book. Every trip in the snow became a bit of an adventure and added to the experience of ownership, who cares if it takes you longer to get to your destination if you arrive grinning like a cheshire cat because you've had chance to enjoy a massive dollop of opposite lock at speeds that fwd and awd cars just carry on about their business.
I've a real soft spot for the m140i enjoy it, nice contrast between the interior and paint.

That looks lovely. You won't be disappointed at all with it Matt.
I had to go for the 'infant friendly' 5 door unfortunately, but I think the 3 door looks much better.
OT but that's a great sized individual car park!I had to go for the 'infant friendly' 5 door unfortunately, but I think the 3 door looks much better.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the car, but shortly after delivery we found out we were expecting another delivery. The fact I'd ordered the 3dr model didn't help.
Before the shenanigans with getting a child seat in the back we did a trip to Ireland and did several journeys with 2 or even 3 adults in the back. It's dark and cramped back there.
Having had a second child recently I now have a Golf R estate and while the two cars are different, they are both very, very good.

Cheers Jimmy,
I'm on a savings push also, you appear to be doing better than I am
Off topic here, but I've impressed myself with it!I'm on a savings push also, you appear to be doing better than I am
I set myself a £4k budget for a used car that wouldn't cost too much to run but wouldn't be too awful (I was thinking mk5 Golf GTI or similar), and managed to spend about a third of that on an Astra SRi Turbo 200 in the end
I might as well update that thread, thanks for reminding me!
A friend has an M135i I've driven a couple of times and enjoyed it, so an M140i would be right up my street. Get us some decent pictures when you collect it!

Good read, I've just checked your thread out. I shall get many pictures tomorrow.
I own what seems to be the great-great-great grandfather of this car- a 325ti. I bought it for the same reasons as you, straight six and RWD. I do 25k/pa in mine and love it. The 140 looks great and I am sure you will love it. As long as you don't take the piss you won't spin it. DSC tends to do a good job even if you are a little less Senna than you envisioned.
Here's a pic of my old warhorse near the B4069. Maybe not as fast as an S3 of the period, but much more fun!

Jake, I've never been a fan of the 3xxti styling (as much as I like the cars themselves) but that looks pretty great there. The colour and wheels really suit it.
D4 - I'll be looking forward to it. It's on the shortlist as a future purchase. A rear drive straight six and a manual gearbox are endangered as it is so I shouldn't leave it too long

That looks like an excellent bit of road!
I'd echo Jimmy's comments, I love the 325ti on paper but I've always found them a little awkward looking, but that looks cracking there.
I'm really not concerned by the rwd aspect, I think of my entire car history I've had 3 or 4 fwd hatches and a couple of Range Rover's, but everything else has been rwd, it's definitely my preference.
