A few more (last) pics of the GT4 at the Nurburgring earlier this week...

It's been a while since I last posted about the Cayman GT4 - back in August after its trip to the Nurburgring - so I thought I'd bring you fellow PH'ers back up to speed!

The GT4 performed beyond expectations at the Green Hell: quick enough, rock-solid stability and super benign handling meant I had the confidence to lap very near my maximum (if not the car's) for almost two whole days with Destination Nurburgring - the only down time was due to a particularly hasty hangover on the morning of day one (never to be repeated!) and a slow puncture to the passenger-side rear tyre at the end of day two, which was eventually fixed back in Blighty.

I even managed to give the car a good clean before my journey home - brake dust is bloody murder to address if you leave it to bake on hot alloys for too long. Argh!

Once back in the UK I took the GT4 to Race by Design to have a full body paint protection film applied....

Race by Design (www.racebydesign.co.uk) based in East Grinstead, West Sussex applied a complete Xpel paint protection film to the GT4 in late summer. See pic below.

I'm really impressed with the results - you wouldn't know the ppf was there unless you knew what you were looking for. And, although far from cheap, it provides piece of mind when it comes to keeping the bodywork and paint in top condition, especially since a European road trip and plenty of track days are planned next year.

GT4 now back a home.

I`ve never been a fan of Porsche designs... usually think the old cliche "they all look the same" but this really does look fantastic just something very right about the way it looks.

Disgusting. Get rid of it immediately. If you can't be seen driving it again I can take care of 'disposal' for you if you like.

Kidding, obvs. Lush hehe

The long winter months are usually terrible for my bank balance because it's during this time that I put my pride and joys in hibernation and start thinking about the year ahead: potential new toys or modifications to existing ones.

And so to the Cayman GT4....

Since I plan a few more track days next year (both home and abroad), I'm considering the following upgrades:

- Tyres: Pirelli P Zero Trofeo Rs (I had these cup tyres on my Cayman R and they were awesome but cripplingly expensive and v pressure sensitive!)
- Brakes: Brembo 2-Piece Type 3 or 5 (https://blog.racetechnologies.com/2016/01/29/brembo-2-piece-type-3-disc-upgrade-for-the-porsche-cayman-gt4-981/)
- Power: Cargraphic Power Kit Stage 2 or 3 (http://www.cargraphicts.com/en/brands/for-porsche/cayman/981/38l-gt4/engine-upgrade/power-kits/)

I'm looking for increased performance, certainly, but also usability, reliability and potential reversibility.

If I go ahead, and it's a big if, I would look to Parr to carry out the work.

Alternatively, I could save the car's originality and my bank balance a hammering by leaving the car well alone!

Any thoughts, views, and/or experiences re the above welcomed...

Okay, I've been a good boy this year (sort of) so I'm going to write to Santa and ask him to treat my GT4 to the Cargraphic Power Kit Stage 3 next year - 327KW(445PS).
It consists of: ECU upgrade, Sport Air Filter, Longtube Manifold Set, IPD Intake Plenum, Sport Rear Silencer Set with integrated Exhaust Flaps.

Thank you.
It's a 2016 with Club sport, Sat Nav, Dab. AC, 6000 miles. Not too many extras on it but it's going to be a weekend/track car so perfect spec for that!

A track day buddy of mine has a GT4 and a GT3RS (not sure what year). I think the GT4's are awesome things, really purposeful looking! OP as you're on the modification slope, have you looked at the Manthey Racing upgrades? My pal fitted some sort of wishbone/track rod upgrade and swore by them. Apparently it gives you much more adjustability so you can set the car up more aggressively on track. He also changed the throttle body, I seem to recall it was/or was based on a GT3RS throttle body. Next time I see him I'll ask exactly what it was, I know the thing was properly quick!

Wow, you chaps were on it! Loving the heel-and-toe plus left foot braking skills. Muchos respect.

Did your pal get the work done to his GT4 by Manthey in Germany or by a UK distributor (if one indeed exists) do you know?

Cheers. I'm 99% sure he got the work done here in the UK, but will check with him when we next catch up. I remember him saying it allowed him to run a lot more camber at the rear, much like the GT3RS. Also, and I can't for the life of me remember why, he took the carbon ceramic brake discs/pads off and into storage, and put traditional steels back on for heavy/regular track use. I know the carbon set up is mega bucks, so all I can think of is there is somehow the possibility of them getting "damaged" with constant track use, but that goes against everything I understand about them as I would have thought carbon ceramics are designed for hard track use, so I really don't know the reason scratchchin

The Carbon ceramic brakes will last longer than a steel setup, but not infinitely, then they're in the region of £10k to replace. Steel will work out half as much over that time without a massive dip in braking performance when looked after.
