1985 Porsche 944

Just wanted to say I'm really impressed with the rate at which you're fixing this up. Who did you choose for the welding work? Hope it goes well. I'm sure you'll have the rest of it up and running in no time.
Ps you can get those sunroof latch keeps from Porsche, I changed mine last year. Pretty sure they were about 30 quid each. I tried gluing and repairing the old ones with no luck.

Thanks for the positive comments means alot after what has been a bit of a testing day! it does have the two reference sensors and they have both been changed! today we made a start hopefully fixing some issue and getting closer to an MOT! first up was putting the replacement oil cooler housing in with the new gasket etc
Whilst dad was making a start on that i set about removing some scotch blocks from the rear light wiring and re joining them with heatshirnk crimps
once the oil cooler and re painted heatshield were in we refiited the re painted ARB and the new bushes
Before starting the car it was time for a top up of oil water and fuel!
most of the spare/removed parts and tools currently live in the boot so it looks like this
after re fitting everything and checking fluids the battery was put on and the car fired straight up! and it sounds and runs better than it ever has this probably is due to some of the wiring fixes etc that i have been doing! alot of the wires had cracks etc in them, once it was running i decided to re fit the ecu up above the pedals as it has been hanging down for a while whilst we checked things out... it was during this process i felt damp on the carpet near my head, and i discovered a leak probably from the heater matrix, you can see it here near the arm that goes to the heater controls
this put a massive downer on the day for me! and i swore etc, however it was then back to business and the drivers seat and the mirrors were bolted back on/in so it can be towed to the welders next weekend! the drivers seat threw up even more issues to sort and after a little drive up the road and back i realised the speedo isnt working! i feel like every time i take one step forwards i find two more issues! however i captured this picture of it outside my house and i love the way it looks! i cant wait to get in on the road! people think im mad but i prefer it to my 996
my new speakers are due to arrive tomorrow and probably new tyres too before the weekend so this definatly wont be the last post

I remember being taken by my 20-year-older brother on a ski trip to Austria in his 944S2 back in around 1990 when I was 15 and I remember being blown away by its performance. He replaced it with a new 968 which he still owns, and I still have a massive soft spot for both the 944 and the 968. I currently have a 981 Boxster S, but I have often thought of replacing it with a 968 and or a 911 of some variety! Don't know if either will happen, but I'm about to embark on an engine rebuild of my nearly 20 year-old 330Ci. Hopefully by the end of that I'll have built up some spanner-wielding chops and can think about another project car!
Brilliant thread and I'll be following along.

The difference is with Porsche there is a decent parts supply for panels etc - the hole in the sill is the smallest of concerns
Try findingpanels for a similar age Opel 2 door coupe
FTFY - hope you don't mind Try finding
Ok today was the day the 944 would make its trip out of the road and off into the big wide world to get some new tyres and then have some rot cut out and some welding done! first job was to empty the car of all the spare parts and bits of trim that are currently removed and get the tyres in it
it was then time to make sure the essential items were prepped for the journey
check the fluids in the car and it started straight up... to cut a long story short this is how it arrived at my friends tyre place
To be continued!!!

A more serious issue would be a faulty injector. This is a 20yr old memory and Im typing as Im thinking, but a faulty injector can overload the DME. I vaguely remember that removing the power from one injector will disclose this - if disconnecting it stops the issue and it runs on three where it wouldnt on four: solution.
Someone will have a fresher memory than me.
