BMW Z4 3.0si Coupe
Discussion
Gave my 108 wheels a good clean up today and to be honest a lot of it was surface grime which was baked on. They came up really well. Only the rear left genuinely needs a refurb. Even if its to address the kerbing, I presume I can just get a mobile guy out to do that on the road side.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4's booked in to go on tomorrow morning, get rid of the dire run flats.
Also purchased a bluetooth module (ebay £20 jobbie) to plug into the back of the headunit see if that helps with streaming music. I have as a back up bought a 3.5mm audio cable with an adaptor to go into my iPhone as a rudimentary solution.
ebay sourced PDC unit has arrived just need to pull apart the rear boot carpet to find the (hopefully) faulty one and swap it out.
Bloody drivers seat is squeaking like crazy, doing my head in!

As i said above i've a set of Z4Ms that i think i'll stick on this summer for a change but i dont think they'll have the wow factor of the CSLs even though i really do love the Z4M rims.
Are you sure they fit? The wheel offset on the rear of a Z4M is totally different than a 3.0Si.Seek said:

Just got my black kidney grills, literally a 2 minute job to change (what a delight why arent all jobs that easy!) and it makes such a nice difference to the front of the car
Pleased to hear that they were easy to do. They took me nearly 2 hours to change(even though on YouTube it took the guys about 5 minutes!) on the M4! I think that we can safely say that I'm not very DIY minded! cerb4.5lee said:

Loving the pics guys keep them coming.
Yes the 'inspections' are really just that, checking stuff works as it should. Nothing taxing at all and certainly not something I would be paying a dealer to do.
Mine had an oil change a year ago and has done something like 4k miles since. I probably will change the oil and filters just as a matter of process of buying a car, as I always do. Although 6.5 litres I think it takes.
Looks great in silver I agree. I did literally buy the first one I went to look at which just happened to be black. I wouldn't have gone for silver but that pic up there looks great.
In all honesty, unless you find a specialist who's doing diff and gearbox oil as part of Inspection 2, I fail to see the value in it. I asked a specialist in SW London about what was in their Ins2 service (twice the price of Ins1), and I think it ended up being a set of plugs and "giving it a good look over". What a waste of money.Yes the 'inspections' are really just that, checking stuff works as it should. Nothing taxing at all and certainly not something I would be paying a dealer to do.

I picked up an early 3.0 convertible before Xmas, and sent it down to the chaps at RBM in Hampshire to fix a couple of niggles (it has 8,000 miles until the next service). As part of that, they gave it a full once over and spotted a few little common issues. For me, that's more reassuring than having an "Inspection 2" stamp in the book (both as an owner and a buyer).
As someone above said, the beauty of the Z4 is that, outside of the stylish body, it's basically a BMW parts bin car. All of the oily bits are shared with various 3/5 series cars, so ownership should be a fairly relaxed proposition. The other side of that coin is that you don't get the sharpest 'sports car' in the world, but I find they make for an excellent 'mini GT' experience.

Mine was an auto. That was a mistake. Slow witted and crap, it spoiled the car. To add insult to injury, the box then went haywire, I paid £400 to have it serviced and it didn't fix it, then was quoted £2.5k to repair. It went to WBAC instead. Never again, manual all the way.
Car wasn't the greatest handling thing I didn't think, but it was very easy to get the rear end moving about and I'm no driving god, so in that respect, it was fun.
Engines are really good in these, a mass produced engine, and mine was remapped, I'd swear it was faster than my Boxster S in a straight line. Definitely much more torque at low revs for sure.
Jayemm did a review of the Z4 3.0Si Coupe, and he preferred it to the Z4MC!

I've always shyed away from remapping non turbo'd cars.I take it there was a noticable difference? I'd consider getting it done if there was.

Oil isn’t too bad. I buy mine from Opie Oils who always seem to have sone form of offer. I used sone Fuchs oil on my 130 and the oil and filter was £57 or so. Seemed like a bargain when a local indy quoted £280 for an oil / filter change.Yes the 'inspections' are really just that, checking stuff works as it should. Diff and gearbox oil is easy and cheap to do if you’re happy to do it yourself.

Remember the diff doesnt have a drain for oil removal and I use a ketchup pump from ebay. The kind you get on the big tubs at burger bars at car shows etc. If you buy a couple, you use one for oil out and a fresh one for oil in. I also used the same for refilling the gearbox that does have a drain plug.Diff and gearbox oil is easy and cheap to do if you’re happy to do it yourself.

To be fair he seems to be comparing them as a daily driver and for that the 3.0Si is probably a better option so long as you bin the run-flats! But then he seems to prefer to tootle about rather than grab a car by the scruff of it's neck and rag it, which is when the M comes alive. After 5+ years of 3.0Si Coupes I got an MC 2 years ago for my weekend/special day toy and it's just so much more special - and there was no Auto option!
