Well done on spotting the difference in the offsets.
Your exhaust looks mighty, but your wheel looks like a thrupenny bit.
Yes, I'm going to buy one of each rim front and rear off ebay, refurb them with the current good ones (perhaps the buckled one if it can be fixed and perhaps the welded item as a back up?) and fit them.Your exhaust looks mighty, but your wheel looks like a thrupenny bit.

Are the rims different widths on the back (one side )or is it just the offsets that differ?

The angle isn’t equal, but this gives you an idea. Rear ET48 on the left and Front ET60 on the right
Both front and rear are 9J width x 21”

Very impressed to see how much you've done in just a few days, BM. That car is crying out for a road trip, looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Thank you FP. There is still a barely perceptible vibration at nine leptons, but I attribute that to RickAlfa’s ‘thruppenny bit’ osf alloy which I’ll soon have replaced. After all the alignment shenanigans, it still isn’t perfect ofc, pulling to the left, but it’s as good as I could expect from the ‘toe adjustment’ service they offer. Certainly, it isn’t tiring to drive.

I've always had a soft spot for an R Class, Michael. Especially one with a V8! Are you keeping the RR and the E500? You have 3 cars that broadly do the same thing! Personally I'd say thats living the dream.
The other Michael
Well, the E500 is now my CL class with a boot. That because it owns me and I’ll never see my dream of a CL500 or 600 or 65AMG. Besides, it still drives brilliantly. The other Michael
The FFRR is loved by the family, is tall, capable, has tonnes of character and can go anywhere. It’s brilliant to drive in town, too.
The R500L is a Merc with seven seats. I’ll know whether it fulfils the brief when we carry seven passengers next week. Having just completed our first long drive, it’s hilarious how it gathers pace, yet is so tall and long. It rides really well — think Bugatti Royale with cup holders.

If you need a new battery I found Merc main dealer were as competitive as online with an easy discount (20% by just asking the question)
Have ordered a standard and auxiliary battery from MB, along with wipers front and rear and a 1L top up bottle of engine oil. Didn’t ask for a discount though and now have buyer’s remorse I collect tomorrow.
Some catching up.
It has been treated to a new fuel cap at some stage — a cord on a 2008 vehicle!
I received some stop gap mats from ebay. Erm, drat
Also received was the boot trim, two torx bolts and simple to replace (thanks to Stegel for the parts info)
New vs Old
As a bonus, the ebay item still has the original film fitted so I’ll attack it with a heat gun at some stage for much shininess.
The size of the boot with the third row seats dropped
But the weak battery is showing itself with dodgy warnings — this was as I turned the car 180° on the drive
So I charged it overnight on ‘Recond’ mode

Friday morning I awoke early to get to the tyre place as they opened for a First Come First Served service.
Have a picture of a screen
I also had a gander under the car and have spotted what I suspect is a slight weeping of oil from the crankshaft oil seal.
After that, rushed home, rushed out bish bash bosh four hundred odd miles later. and were in Scotland.
It’s nice to drive, comfortable ride, nice steering wheel, seats are a little uncomfortable for me, perhaps not for a fat Yank, fast, powerful and four wheel drive composed. The new Continental AllSeasonContact2 were tested in lots of conditions and they’re grippy, quiet and compliant.
The stereo is effing awesome and the limiter can increase in single mph increments in addition to five mph increments. The pano roof is really nice and it’s good to have a modern media set up.
The M273 + 7G-Tronic revs at 3,000 at the tonne, as opposed to the M113 + 7G-Tronic that revs at 2,750.
As mentioned above, there is an almost imperceptible vibration, but it’s now much better.

Morning update. I’ve arrived at MB Glasgow to collect the bits and bobs and I asked if they have any capacity in the workshop this morning… they’ve agreed and will be fitting the battery. Bonus if they’ll fit the aux battery.
I’ve asked them (whilst they at it), to change the wipers all round and top up the engine oil, as necessary.
I’m currently sat in the salesman’s chair, tucked away in a corner of the showroom. This place is huge.

Hope you've got your lube ready I’ve asked them (whilst they at it), to change the wipers all round and top up the engine oil, as necessary.

That said, to get it sorted sooner rather than later, whilst on a trip away, makes it worth it. The stress and worry of knowing it could fail on you before getting it done elsewhere would be a pain.

Standard battery fitted, along with front and rear wipers. Engine oil level and tyre pressures checked, all okay.
No time to fit the auxiliary battery and they mistook my order of a 1L engine oil top up for 2x5L, so I had to return them.
No charge for fitting and battery and they left the aux battery in the boot
