Once they were fitted and checked to be working, I used the remaining day light to replace the trim at the bottom of the windscreen that the scuttle trim clicks into. BMW call it a ledge.
The ledge fitted tinted car was really loose on the screen and windows basically fall off as soon as the scuttle is removed. The new one is much, much tighter. In fact it was a sod to get in place.
The scuttle trim now clips in place properly and the corners site tight to the windscreen.
Do you have a part number of the bit that wore out? Mines never sat right since a windscreen replacement and I've been avoiding it thinking I'd need a whole new surround. The ledge fitted tinted car was really loose on the screen and windows basically fall off as soon as the scuttle is removed. I'll definitely be getting new one of those
They’re dirt cheap; the old supporting ledge wouldn’t stay out in the screen, so no wonder the scuttle panel refused to sit flush. The rubber seal that the lower half of the cabin filter box clips to is dirt cheap too. That’s been replaced because it didn’t stay put either.

I do like them Sam
I saw a glacier silver 340i touring the other day with the M Performance rear lights fitted and I really like them!
Tempted to get a set for my touring TBH

Do it…it’s only money!
I took the car for an alignment this afternoon and they couldn’t do it because the track rod ends were seized solid.
I’d already preempted this by ordering a pair of inners and ends. They didn’t have time to fit them this afternoon so it looks like I’ll be doing it between Christmas and New Hear and hoping the weather holds.
I also had a crack at fitting the detachable tow bar today and it’s a piece of cake so I’ll be buying a bike carrier to lug tyree bikes around in the spring.
A few other bits will be getting sorted soon too; the lacquer peel on the rear bumper is getting pretty bad so looks like that’ll need sorting soon too.

They must have been really tight for time as that is a nice quick easy job to do inners and outers!I’d already preempted this by ordering a pair of inners and ends. Just need to make sure you have a nice big spanner for the inners.. I've always used stilsons tbh..

I just don’t think they fancied it to be honest. They quoted a couple of hours labour plus VAT to do it. Just need to make sure you have a nice big spanner for the inners.. I've always used stilsons tbh..
I’ve bought a really big adjustable and and even bigger pipe wrench so I’m pretty confident that I’ll get the inners out. No don’t the 21mm not on the tied rod end will put up a fight and need to be cut off.

He just replaced them both, which may have been cheaper than battling with them for hours. And as he said it'll be an easy job if I need an alignment again!

I had exactly the same issue with mine, luckily when they gave up trying to adjust the toe it was just in spec so the car was still fine to drive, but I'm planning to replace the inners and outers at some point (I already have a set ready to go on when I get the time).I’d already preempted this by ordering a pair of inners and ends. I have a tube of anti-seize compound to soother the threads and hopefully keep them free for a little longer, but who knows whether it will make much difference given the location and exposure to road grime and salt etc.

Ive used those cheap socket adapter things for inner tie rods with success on a couple of cars. Makes undoing it a bit easier as you can get a ratchet or breaker on it from the wheel well. Good luck, sure you'll sort it either way
What are those? As above it's a job I need to tackle at some point, and I was thinking either using water pump pliers or buying a big adjustable spanner, but the torque spec looks pretty chunky on these so a better tool suggestion is always welcome.Court_S said:

One of mine came off, the other half off and had to cut it. Easy enough access luckily!

I assume he’s referring to these:Not sure how much use it’ll be for me because I want to reuse the boots. OE ones are sodding expensive and the Lemforder ones I bought for my 335i don’t fit over the steering rack.

I’m not in the mood to fight trying to just get the ends off. I did with my 335i but it’s different working on cars in the summer than in the winter! I’ll be chucking on some anti-seize. It can’t hurt.
