Arrow offered me a good price but I need to be sure DHL will reimburse me.
They won't if they 'turn up'. The sender might get some compensation for the shipment being late, but it won't cover the cost of the contents.

JC have been good enough to sort another set, which they are just in process of shot peening and balancing, so hopefully one of these sets will eventually arrive. I'm feeling a little more philosophical about things this morning though anyway. smile It would have been far worse if it was my newly refurbished ITB's that had gone walkabout.

Surely this is JC’s issue to fight with dhl. They should just be sorting you out quickly?

Yes, it's certainly down to JC and DHL to resolve. JC did say they'd sort another set of rods and put them through the same process but that's another week or so at best and I just don't want another delay. I've opted to go with Arrow, who were really helpful and knocked a bit off their price too.

13 years ago today I was in a bad car accident and in Intensive Care till Christmas Eve due to an induced coma. I broke my neck twice, my back twice, shattered my pelvis and was in hospital for nearly a year. I guess it helped me learn to be a bit more patient than I might otherwise have been? smile

New rods arrived from Arrow. I'm no engineer but even to me the quality is night and day compared to the previous set.

Hopefully we now have everything we need to crack on with rebuilding the bottom end.

Big end bearings are from King and new mains are KS, which I believe are OE anyway.

Patience is wearing pretty thin today, as it transpires the missing package wasn't insured. frown

So how do you know the company sent anything! Although YOU won;t get anything from DHL for ages, I'd have thought it was the senders responsibility to ensure the goods that were ordered are supplied.

Those are some tasty looking rods.

Almost look too good to put inside an oily engine casing!

I only have their word I guess but I trust what they've told me thus far and they're pretty reputable. I think the insurance thing is just a genuine mistake, albeit a costly one. I'm just hoping they accept liability and don't start saying they could have found a cheaper solution. I've said I will swallow the cost of the lost pistons so I don't think asking them to pay for the rods is unfair.

I thought the same. Even the packaging is pretty impressive!

Pistons are going to be CP again.

Well my rods never surfaced so well done DHL. Unfortunately, an oversight meant there was no insurance and whilst JCR didn't stump up for the Arrow replacements, they did waive the costs incurred doing my old rods and giving my ITB's an extensive overhaul and refurbishment. A compromise that we were both OK with.

I had a couple of big boxes arrive from Compomotive this week.

Christmas and New Year is going to be pretty much constant night shifts to cover the cost of the engine but hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Last time I didn't paint the outside of the block but this time, as the ITB's etc are all nice and newly refurb'd, I think I would like to do it. I'm just unsure what colour they were from the factory? I was thinking dark blue?

Apart from tyres, the only other thing I am waiting on the the STACK digital dash display. It's being sent from their factory in the USA for some reason, so will be delayed by the holidays now as I think today is the final postage day.

Satin black, Mark. Halfords do a really good engine enamel of all places, i was surprised how nice it went on. Shame about the rods but im glad you got there in the end with some compromise!

Wheels look awesome too!

Thanks for that. I'll drop down to Halfrauds and treat myself tomorrow. smile

Tyres are now a toss up between 595's or r888's. 595's are probably the most sensible choice.

The only other job I would really like to get done is to change the springs on the KW V2 suspension. They're just a bit too firm for regular road use and the rear can be a bit skittish on poor road surfaces. I really want it to be a bit more compliant. I also need to get a full alignment check done but obviously I'd want to sort the spring rates first. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. smile

UPS turned up with the dash display from STACK today. smile They then asked for £208 import duty and because they only accept cash or cheque, they promptly took it away again. I don't think I have had a cheque book for nigh on 10 years?! Hopefully, now that I've paid online, it'll be back tomorrow.

Bottom end is all back together but a couple of the inlet valves need replacing.

I still haven't bought any tyres as I keep changing my mind re brand.

I sold a used one via Facebook and someone posted a link to a cheaper alternative that was supposedly all singing, all dancing for just £500. It looked like 80's Tandy though and certainly wasn't the look I was after. It may well have worked ok but the stuff from Stack is another league when it comes to quality.

I'm just waiting on a couple of new inlet valves and the newly refurbished ITB's from JC Racing now. Once they're here the engine can be finished. I'm going with either Paul at Circuit Motors or Wayne at Chipwizards for mapping.

Well I think of it, does anybody know if you can get 245/35r17's on the front of an M3 on 8" rims? ET15.
