Just a thought, they aren't cheap pads that are in the caliper are they? I put Eurocarparts cheapies in the rear of the older Focus and they squeak quite often!!!
I can't remember which pads were put in it when they were changed, I'll hunt out the bill later and see, though when the car is stopped after having been driven there is heat coming from the n/s/r wheel which is why I thought caliper

Turns out it was the caliper, it had completely seized and has damaged the disc as well so the car has been at the garage today for a new caliper, discs and pads. The o/s/r caliper was changed about a couple of years ago so at least they have both been done

Good that you now know what it was, shame it's a cost you could do without straight after Christmas.

These things happen, no point in getting cross about it, though I agree it's a cost anyone can do without straight after Christmas. I had suspected the caliper was the problem. It could well have been the original one though so if that's the case it didn't do too badly

The last couple of mornings the car has taken a bit of cranking to get going first thing and there has been a cloud of white smoke on startup along with a slight smell of diesel, I'm thinking injectors but is there anything else it could be? Once it has ran and been switched off it starts fine.

Well it probably isn't them, check the voltage at the battery both running and non running, they really don't like low battery voltage, and next time you fill up throw a whole bottle of Redex in the tank!!!

Thanks Bobberoo, a bit of Googling suggests it could be the injector seals, anyone know how easy they are to change?

I don't think changing them is particularly difficult it's bleeding the system that can be problematic, I'm sure there'll be something on YouTube!!

Just worked out the Focus has cost £2822.35 in servicing MOTs and running repairs in 27 months giving an average of £104.53 a month, not bad at all for a 13 year old car with over 206k on the clock

Sounds like quite a lot of money to me...Especially on a £500 car! My 16 year old 110,000+ miler Passat has cost me well under £1000 in that time and that’s with a service every year, discs and pads, 4 nearly new tyres and a cambelt change!

Certainly not bargainous but I suppose it depends on the £/mile in each case.

£10k in receipts I dared to keep
£3k at a VERY conservative estimate of receipts not kept.

Mileage fro 89k to 170k

Your all doing brilliantly!

Works out to about 8.5p a mile which I don't think is bad considering the age and mileage of the car, certainly a lot less than the depreciation on a new one.
