To be fair since the mega cheap Polo GTI lease deals a few months ago I'm seeing a lot if them about now being driven by total chavs who couldnt afford a Golf R.

The ST looks to be the classier gents choice now.
I havent seen many on the roads to be honest. But in either case it's going to be a ticking time bomb for both of them once they come out of warranty and fall into younger hands frown

Every single person in Essex has one. I'm sure there are quite a few Gary's that live there smile

There was no time for the sheep I'm afraid. Too busy going up Snowdon and enjoying the beauty of Wales smile

Great car OP. I've been looking at 2012-2014 M3's and C63's but having second thoughts now. The almighty Polo seems to tick all the boxes.
I don't think there would be much in it in the real world especially with a remap.
I know that's clearly a troll comment but if you look at the track videos you'll find M3's and such don't really get away unless it's long straights where obviously any extra momentum I can carry is going to get blasted by that extra grunt.

That said for a few seconds a lap is it worth the extra fuel cost, tyres and general wear and tear?

I would argue not actually!

The funny thing is a stage 2 map with a few upgrades can go from 250-280bhp which would be more than enough to see off any standard M3 given the Polo weight.

JM - honest question for you - what is it about this car that you think others might not understand?
What it is I think is that it's not regarded as the best all round hatch of its size. I'm not talking boot size, looks, dynamics or a single area just that it combines all aspects of the small hot hatch into the best all round package that's out there currently.

Yes the Fiesta is great and all but is it a great all rounder? With just 3 doors? With gearboxes that need changing 3 times if you add another 100bhp? With the ride quality? With the looks?

I would say no. But no one can seem to admit that. THAT is what I want people to understand.

Meh I'm bored now...

I suppose you think a Megane R26R is a better all rounder than a Golf Gti...

“A hot hatch for over-30s; makes the Fiesta feel like a car for teenagers.”

I think this what joe is getting at.
Exactly....and this:

It’s a very refined package, and very sure-footed on the limit”
“Probably the most complete package of all the hot hatches as well; not as sketchy on the limit"

They did get a few things wrong though in the spec sheet..

It doesn't have continental tyres
It has 215/40/17 not 205/20/17
Brakes are 312mm not 283mm

I've not seen that review before until now. But I think its quite impressive how it beat the Golf Gti to 100kmh and did a 14.5 second quarter mile!

When presented with a perspective like that that echoes my own thoughts on the car it's hard to not argue with the cynics/critics of it. I'm well aware it has downfalls but if the time ever comes to sell it in the future what the hell do I follow it up with that isn't going to cost me another 15k or so?!

To be fair whatever car I'm currently driving is automatically the best thing ever. I like any and all cars even slow ones. I drove the Polo S a little while back (the most bog standard Polo you can buy) and still had a blast with it!

Maybe I should shut up and work out how I can convince the missus that my brand new car needs new wheels, tyres, pads and a LSD...

Joe, what do you consider to be the downsides to the Polo?
Less boots space due to the battery being there.
Turbo runs out of puff around 6500rpm
Standard brakes fade
Is a bit quiet even in the sport mode

That's about it.

Yes I'm aware of it I'm just saying it's a downside to the car as someone asked me what I thought were the negatives.

I could rev to 5500 rpm but I would be lower in the revs when the the next gear arrives. It will rev to 7200 which is handy for the approach to some corners although you can audibly hear and feel that it's not really giving you anything past around 6-6.5

Nothing a bigger turbo couldn't sort but I like the low and mid range this has smile

Ah the 6R Polo Gti...

I am not a fan of the whole VAG gay white stickers on the rear window and low and slow with blingy wheels.

Much prefer the motorsport or wrc look myself but each to their own...

Thanks. I could be in any of the current small hatches and be having a blast to be fair. This works for me though smile

The BMW wasn't "blocking" you, per-se, rather I think it was just a combination of the BMW driver being a bit useless and you not quite having enough power to make the move stick.
Sort of. But once I've passed I'm a good few seconds ahead by only three or four corners so pretty sure he just didn't want to let me by. No biggy I had just enough power on the straight to get past although I was under the impression BMW compacts wern't that fast?

I would say the sheer fact that he gets caught and then has a Polo latched to his rear bumper for almost a full lap is a good indicator that he should move over. By not doing so that's effectively blocking as im not going to force an overtake on a trackday

Do you have any videos where you actually hit the Apex?

also, a stage 2 won't put you anywhere near an M3.
It's a cracking little car - but you need to respect other people's opinions.
No. I miss every single apex every single time. The only reason I am able to chase much faster cars and pull out decent laptimes for a standard car is because my lines are dreadful and I miss every apex it's all just an illusion and I make up for it on the straight because I have 1000bhp!

What bloody video are you watching? The wet ones? You realise most corners at Snetterton are extremely slippery in the wet especially of oggies?

No wait, I apologise. I'm obviously watching and commenting on a different video.

As you were smile
Wow are you blind? Or slightly retarded? You do realise it's a wide angle gopro camera mounted to the windscreen and that there is this weird thing called a bonnet and bumper in front of it. It also looks further away than it would if you were actually sat in the car.

Not that it matters because I'm obviously trailing miles behind it the whole lap and the only reason I get past is because he read this forum thread and feared the little Polo would eat him alive.

Prick.

I'm sorry Joe but i literally cringe at EVERYTHING that you say. What's worse is that you don't even realise how you're coming across. Even when you're being obviously trolled on here you STILL carry on.

You remind me of a young lad once upon a time on Cliosport.net who i actually knew unfortunately. He was very similar to you and was an absolute laughing stock on the forum, just like a certain someone here. Thing is he was just a teenager at the time who i believe has grown up since and realised the error of his ways. You do kinda get a pass at that age and he did eventually grow out of it.

You on the other hand...
I do honestly hope one day that you do aswell.

Thats great. Cringe away. Insult away.

The difference is this is just the Internet and I give literally no sts to what text on a screen thinks of me.

Don't really give a st what you thought if you were stood right in front of me either to be honest but hey everyone has a choice really and it's simple:

You don't like what I do or say you can fk off.....the website is pretty large with many interesting topics. You think it's funny to argue with me? Great. You are trolling me right? Whoops wrong again...;)

Just think how much interest there would have been on this thread if I just posted a bunch of pictures wink
