This thread is an great example of the power of the internet, privacy & human behaviour:

1. The OP posts a generic statement about winning a car which was not quite what he expected
2. Within a day the competition, company involved, car, registration number, MOT history and photographs are laid out for all to see
3. The OP has done a great job of remaining calm and not getting angry with any of the negative responses whilst thanking those who were positive

However it should be clear to anyone who thinks they can post a little item on the internet that within 24 hours the full facts will be available in perpetuity for anyone on the planet to read. Just a thought....
Its got me amazed, thats for sure. Unbelievable what can be gleaned from so little info.

AXA-NI insurance - you BEAUTY!!!!

£298!!!!!

If you see me walking around dressed like Neo from the Matrix - don't be surprised biggrin

Plan is:

Tax it
Insure it
Put it up for sale but drive it while I try to sell it*

  • I already drive a barge (Volvo V90) so if this thing drives ok - I may even keep it.
Will be interesting to see what kind of stereo is fitted. If stock, I might fit an Android system. Looking into it, you can get quite a good Android stereo with back up/front up cameras for not too much money - bring the car into the the more modern era. Stereo cassette players are standard in these I think so that'll never do - needs spotify and google maps as a minumum.

You know that you can only apply your NCD to one car, right? wink
Ah, no. Didn't know that. What if I cancel my other insurance - can I put 2 cars on the one policy - might have to do that instead....if its possible

Thanks all. Goof advice.

So AXA have now said I can have my no claim discount on both cars, but I have to remove my Dad. Wont let me have named drivers if I'm mirroring my NCD across 2 cars.

All in £700 for both cars. Volvo being £400.

Pity about my named driver bit though, my missus and my Dad are named drivers. Not the end of the world, they both have cars already.

Do admiral allow named drivers and dual cars?

I'm not getting too emotionally involved in this thread. There's a risk SoupDragon will disappear and we'll never see photos and a write up of the car.

I've been here before with no thread closure, and can't take the disappointment.
Definitely not, will keep updating. I've got insurance sorted, both cars need to be on same policy to keep mirrored no claims on both, but I lose named drivers otherwise I cant mirror NCD.

PP have come back and said while 30k was a mistake by the chap during the draw, it wouldn't have effected me choosing to enter as that was said after the draw was made.

I've been polite in my emails and I haven't lost sight of the fact that its something for nothing. Now that insurance is sorted, I'm really looking forward to getting it - it's going to be fun for the family and something to look on in years to come - the day Daddy won an enormous American car with 3 rows of seating smile

Max hp is at 5200rpm and max torque is at 4000 rpm. From what I've read, you can tune the hp curve to bring better hp at lower rpm but considering it's a big ol bus, not sure if there is much value in doing any of that.
An mpg tune might be a better idea smile

IMHO don't do anything to it.

I think that after 6 months or so you will be bored and thinking that for what you'd get selling it could be put towards something more fun and cheaper to run.

Can you still pick-up a 944 S2 for £8K? Or if you've still got a V8 desire pump in a few more grand and get a TVR.

Either way, I would strongly advise putting aside whatever you were planning to do/spend on the car for 6 months. If you still want to do it after that time go for it.
Thats the sensible approach I suppose - rather than spend money straight up, just wait and see what its like to live with. I'll be wanting to advertise it for sale too just to see if I can find a buyer but I need to accept that that would either be quite difficult, or else I'll have to sell it cheap for a quick sale.

One thing I do have in mind is a stereo upgrade so that maps, reversing camera etc are available. That would probably help with the sale and there is a good outfit not far from me that do all this stuff for reasonable money. A previous poster had mentioned 4GB minimum - which is sound advice - you want something snappy but also, something that starts from sleep quickly without being 'on' and therefore draining the battery. Those cheaper stereos just can't do that effectively from what I've been reading.

I WILL update with pics once she arrives. I might even ask PP if I can collect it, rather than wait to be delivered as I've got insurance all sorted out.

I've been having a nosey to try and find out what I can, so in the absence of real pics....

These look to be where the light upgrades have come from. You can get all sorts from Carid website

By upgrading the lights, you no longer have the orange indicator lights which definitely show the cars age. I guess the light upgrades are the equivalent of a Just for Men hair upgrade smile

It's been described as a 7 seater which I'm really pleased about. This means in the middle row you get 2 captain chairs, with armrests and heated seats

This is the seating plan

Cool layout which this kids will totally LOVE smile

Sorry, but that's all I have in the way of pics right now!

Since they don't have to deliver it, perhaps they can chip in for some fuel money, if its any distance it could be expensive tongue outbiggrin
It's a 1 hour drive and I now have the address. They are happy for me to come get it. Requested to pick it up tomorrow after work so hopefully they'll come back in the morning with an ok.

So I guess I don't really know it it's got the captain chairs or not.

Or maybe it only got 4 seats due to being pimped out...

This would work

I think I'll pass on ticking the exercise bike option

Talk about ships passing in the night!

As previously mentioned, yesterday I requested to collect it after work and if that would be ok..

I get an email this evening, asking why I didn't turn up to collect the car!

Oh dear, they assumed I would go this evening and I'm sitting waiting for confirmation and didn't go.

Nevermind, now that's been cleared up its sitting waiting for me. I'll do my best to get it tomorrow evening although I need to find someone to drive the other car home (I need to drive just over an hour away to where the car is - no train station even close)

Failing that, it'll definitely be Thursday, I can get my Dad to follow me home, via a petrol filling station of course smile

Thu night I play footy with the lads so really looking forward to showing them all the car.

But I promise, as soon as I'm in the yard, either tomorrow or Thu, the 1st thing I'll do is stick some pics up here.

I'll do a couple of YouTube videos at the weekend, maybe take it to a nice scenic spot and do a couple of videos so you can see it/hear it as well as take more pics and I'll get them up on here too. Should be a good laugh having a good look around it smile

How do you even know this lol?

I maybe missed a link earlier but the ebay finder thingy link showed the main car pic but all others were unavailable.

Unless you can see them and maybe just my phone browser is the issue?

Car is in Armagh so I'll actually be passing through Lisburn on my way home. I'll beep the horn and rev the engine menacingly as I travel through all the traffic lights biggrin

@stevep944 - Downpatrick is somewhere I haven't been in a long time - last time I was in Downpatrick was an unfortunate hospital visit. Nice town though.

fk sake. Exchanged phone numbers so I could organise directly with the co. that has the car

So its going to be next week now. Was hoping to show it to the lads at football this evening and doing a trip at the weekend.

Its my own fault for canceling the original delivery. Shoddy have taken I'm and parked it up in the drive.

Quick timeline.

Win the car around 23rd July

They get in contact within the week, car is down from the scaffold, getting checked out

A week passes and then parts need ordered from USA which take 10 days to arrive, then add fitting time

Then we need to wait on organising photographer, car agent, PP representatives etc, as well as myself

So we get to Wed last week as delivery date

Get car details on the Monday night so try to get insurance

Cant get insurance, so the Tue afternoon I cancel everything

Couple of hours later, I just say, don't worry, I'll take it anyway

Too late - Wed delivery cancelled

On the Fri I think it was, I get insurance via axa

I later ask can I pick up instead, suggesting Tue PM

Get a reply on Wed mon asking why I didn't come collect it - aaarggghhhh

Then I get to the point of direct contact with me and car co. I assume I can just go get it so I text him and ask can I get it today....but hes racing.

So that's how it's all unfolded. Sorry to disappoint! I'm disappointed myself and having to explain all this to friends, family too, as well as on here. Everyone is going WTF Soup!?

What about the bit mentioned above about the £3.5k sale to the guy who hoisted it into position? Where does that fit in? smile
Fake news lol!

No mention of selling it to anyone, bar Rich12 way earlier in the thread. As previously posted, my plan is to tax, insure, drive it and put it up for sale, but drive it and enjoy it 1st.

No sales done whatsoever smile
