Thanks very much to everyone - your thoughts and sharing personal experience do make a massive difference to us. clap

We're doing ok but not hopeful of seeing Rolf again. BBB posted up on a few FaecesBook groups and someone said they'd seen a black R8 parked up nearby, with loads of details on exactly where. We called the rozzas and they called us back within 30 mins to say they'd visited the site, but another R8 driver must have just been grabbing a kebab. The guy from Facebook has seen it again at the same location and sent a load of pictures but it's got the wrong wheels, grill wasn't wrapped and still had standard mirrors so I'm sure that's not ours.

The Fuzz had seen it on ANPR at 8:30pm on Friday when it left here but haven't seen it since which is probably no surprise.

BBB called home on the weekend and found out her cousin had had his car stolen at knife point by a crazy junky at home, with the dude threatening his wife and dog with stabbing. It makes you realise how lucky we were.

BBB has had a few teary moments, anthropomorphising Rolf and wondering where he is. I don't think I helped by setting up a few eBay searches for R8 parts and telling her these sorts of cars often get parted out. cry

I've been ok about the car, hopeful that the insurance will pay out a proper amount and thinking about what what car next. I'm trying to see it as an opportunity to try something different.... But 6+ cylinder, manual is a disappointingly small field, especially when your wife thinks Porsches are all driven by knobs. We aren't very liquid currently so I think sadly the budget will stay the budget.

Thanks all. We have heard back from the police that they have no evidence, footage or witnesses so they have closed the case.

I spoke to the insurer today (we'd been on holidays last week when they called back) and they valued the car at £2k more than we bought it - not bad considering we added almost 12k miles to it in our 2 years!!

Current thinking is to buy something cheap for over the winter and see if interest rates take a bite out of sport car pricing in that time.

The payout has all made it a bit real - I had a bit of a quiet tear-up at work after I got off the phone! Thanks for the memories Rolf. clapdriving

I went from an R8 to a GT4. did your insurance settlement go smoothly enough?
Yes it did thanks. We are with LV and they were super quick and gave us a sensible number. They've insured the Cayman for an extra £100 for the remaining 10 months of the Audi's policy too!

Loads of luggage space! A soft skinny Eastpak wheely and a cabin-max backpack on the shelf behind the seats (doesn't impact rear or blindspot views) and then a smaller Eastpak soft cabin wheely in the frunk with shoes, oil, spare coats etc. We packed clothes for nine days this trip.

Apologies for the thread resurrection. I'd send you a message but they aren't enabled.

As someone who is buying a V10 manual R8 in a few months and planning several road trips, reading your thread was extremely helpful and very informative.

Your luggage solution is the most comprehensive I've seen, I thought you'd be able to fit bags behind the seats but hadn't seen anyone actually do it.

Would you be able to share the specific model of bag you bought that fitted please? I searched for the soft skinny but didn't seem to be able to find it.

Such a shame it ended the way it did.
Sure thing, I love these Eastpak bags. This is the tall one we used behind the seats - it also works really well behind the engine in the Porsche too.

Make sure you start a thread and ping me back here. I've been looking at V10s occasionally too...
