Wow!
I think this is going to be my new favourite thread.
Awesome car/bike history OP.
You'll no doubt be in at the deep end with the resto but, that's the best way.
Great gesture to auction it off too.
Good luck with it all. I like to think I'd be that generous if I was in a position to be.
I like your style! Rock on! thumbup

What a superb thread. Its great see a car fanatic not give a stuff about how much it costs, how much it loses come sale time etc etc and just buy what they want and just fking drive it smile

Total top respect to you sir and to give the proceeds away on this project to a worthwhile charity is just the icing on the cake.
A beer of your choice is waiting for you Sir just keep the thread updated wink

Thanks man, i really appreciate it. Yeah i've always had the ethos of 'a car is to be driven, and driven hard'

Charity is something people either do or just ignore. I have always given to charity but never really spoke about it. I ended up donating three times to Eddie Kidd walking the marathon because i couldn't actually believe what this incredible man was doing.

Unfortunately the world is devided into two, those with and those without.
Ok, you might wake up in the morning and think "it's not fair, my neighbour has a brand new car and mine is falling apart".
At least you (generic you, not you personally) have a roof over your head, a car and good health.

I've been fortunate over my 28 years to experience things i never thought possible, it's taken a lot of hard work but i still managed to bring my dream to reality.
I watched a programme on BBC recently called 'Poor Kids' and it generally made me sick to the stomach, earlier that day i was deciding what colour to have my next car, what spec and gadgets, etc, etc.
Then i watched this programme (catch it on iplayer) and my whole mood came crashing down. These are children who are exstatic to be treated to a £9 haircut for their birthday, who make their clothes last years and do it with such humility.

I must admit, i too am lazy when it comes to charity, yes i give money but i could also give my time.
So i thank you for the offer of a beer, i truly do. But please instead of spending the £2 - £3 on that beer, donate it to a child which has a terminal disease and believe me, it'll bring a better feeling than any beer ever could.

I'm speaking to a few people this week with regards to the car, hopefully i should have some parts in a few weeks, i'll document and picture everything.

Can I ask what you do for work Pete? I need to change jobs and be more like you.........!
Hi M5Tom, haha i'm sure you fine as you are. To answer your question though mate, i own a few businesses. My main thing is resale of commercial gas and electricity. However recently, i say recently but it's taking over 3 years of due diligence, i have launched my new gas company. This is 100% commercial, it will take care of everything from purchasing wholesale gas right the way through to distribution to the companies doorstep.
Think of it like a very very small scale British Gas.

My other businesses include data cleansing and business classification.
Also decided this morning after a lengthy discussion with the wife that we need to be buying up some cheap houses to rent out, toldher that i'd rather buy some cars and thrash them haha, she won though (doesn't every woman).

Same advice i give to anyone, "never let anyone tell you that you can't do something". The people who say this are the same people who want you to fail because they only wish they could do it themselves. Also just remember that money is nothing but numbers, we put too much importance on it because it has a value to it. The day i started making money is the day i stop caring about it, remember that and you'll be fine.

cheers

Pete

Thanks for the detailed reply Pete. Much appreciated.

Was there anything else on the Ferrari factory classic stock list which you wanted or couldn't get ?
Yeah a 250 california but then i woke up in my bowl of Cornflakes haha.
They really have stepped up to the mark Ferrari, basically all thanks to Enzo Ferraris other son, obviously not Dino, the other one whose name eludes me right now. He was sorting out some of his Dads stuff a few years back (remember that no one was allowed to touch it after he died) and came across all sorts, original blueprints for the old V12s, car blueprints that never made production, original servicing blueprints, lock, stock, the fking lot haha.

He basically had a showdown with Luca and Ferrari Jnr came out on top.

Look into it, it's amazing.

Also if there is anything more you'd like to know about the pitfalls of buying cars then give me a shout and i'll reply if i've had it or not. Also the more i was thinking about it last night, the more i'm drawn away from an Aston and more pushed to an S5/RS5. The S5 has done all it's depreciation which means i could smoke that for a few months and that'd free up more money for the project.

That would be Piero Lardi Ferrari,

The technical archives have been known about and open to various people for decades (some of the information has been available to members of the FOC since the 60’s), for example when David Piper built his 330 continuation cars, he was given access to and copies of the drawings.

Enzo's office at Maranello was devoid of pretty much any technical documentation and the blueprints for some of the smaller prototype parts were sold off with them, for example the two cylinder motor that was purchased almost 40 years ago by a well known UK collector has the factory blueprints displayed next to it

Ferrari's move into the classic sphere with Classiche was a response to similar depts in other manufacturers, as well as pressure from various clients who had requested the factory rebuild their cars, which was previously outsourced to various third party companies in and around Maranello and Modena, all of which was done with the full agreement of and encouragement from LDM.

Interestingly, ALL of Ferraris old parts stock was transferred to Ferrari UK several years ago and has been filtering back to the factory, as well as remanufactured bits from various UK based organisations . . . . . .

Had a chat with Walter in Modena this morning wink

Hi Guys

Besides when it's finished i'll be looking at auctioning it off and the proceeds can go to Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children. Then i'd like to move on to a DB5 and auction that off.

These guys saved my life, if you ever need a hand on this, I'd be more than willing to come over and lend some spannery help!

Well if you need someone to come along and kick tyres with you mate... wink

I'm sure I've seen the Conti in town a few times as my girlfriend pointed out the KTE plate (my previous track car had KTE in the reg and she called it Katie... women eh?!) though in fairness we do tend to see a fair few of them with living in town.

Interesting to read you views on the 997. We've been looking at these ourselves recently, and have the same conclusion on colour combos. I'm assuming you're talking trade prices though as the only 2 we saw near £25k were rough as hell tip's at some strange place up in Keighly. They'd been treated worse than an old Focus. Shameful.

Interesting to see how the 250 develops, and if you need someone to make brews while you give out orders to the restorers, I'm you're man! I do own a decent set of tools, but I'm a graphic designer so feck getting my hands dirty! laugh

Amazing project! Keep is updated! Can't wait to see how it pans out.

Check out the North west forum on here if you fancy some meets and runs out in the NW. There is a monthly south Manchester meet on the second Tuesday of the month and a few others too. Also a list of shows etc.

I'm only in knutsford so can't wait to see this progress and hopefully see you at a meet or two over the summer whilst I'm home from uni. thumbup

With regards to charity chap, have you seen the thread no the SW forums 'Caring with cars'?
Basically theres a meet up at a childrens hospice in Bristol, and all you have to do is bring one of your special cars and buy a few raffle tickets.

Haha, yeah i called it Katie as well. My 997 (911) Cab was called J-Lo, because it had a fat arse biggrin
It was probably my Bentley because i work in the city centre and i've never seen another Conti with that plate.

Regarding the cars i was describing, i'm glad that they were quite accurate, i thought it'd get slammed on here from fellow PH'ers. I wasn't talking about trade prices, i'm actually talking about being cheeky and offering lower prices. Remember that cars are a depreciating asset and sometimes people just want rid. Here are a few examples below:

My previous 997 was up at £30k in Southampton, phoned the couple who were selling it and asked the right questions, they had people lined up round the corner to buy it. Lots of them had part exs (a lot of Q7's for some reason??) and a few were sorting out finance but were dropping like flies. The couple had a failing business so i took this opportunity and offered them £25k, they laughed and said no way. I said that i had cash and i'd throw them £1000 into their bank straight away. After them putting the phone down on me it took less than 2 hours for them to call me back and agree. The wife and I flew down there, 45 minutes. They picked us up at the airport in a Zafira. Went to the house saw the car, drove to the bank and transfered the money. Yes they both spoke to me like ste and wouldn't even let me use their toilet (seriously) but i still got their pride and joy for £25k.

My first Bentley was up at £47k with 21k miles on the clock, i pestered them for it at £41k. It took 2 weeks of constant phonecalls but i got it. Had it 6 months, threw 12k extra on the clock and sold it for £40k needing new tyres, service and some tlc (told the customer all this though). The guy who bought it was over the moon because it was the cheapest Bentley in the UK at the time. £1,000 for 6 months thrashing a Bentley, not a bad deal if you ask me haha.

Oh yeah, just from experience, never ever buy from Keighley trade centre. Lots of rough cars there, but that's just my opinion.

One more thing as well, buying a tiptronic Porsche isn't too much of a bad thing as they resell really well in London, a lot of stop starting.

I have seen this but it's a little too short notice for me because unfortuantely i'm starting to get very busy, i so wish this was in the North West. I hope it turns out to be a fantastic day and they raise lots of money.
I saw the TVR Typhoon there, i hope it does the british people proud and makes lots of money.

Haha, I just took all I'd read with a pinch of salt, and the day we found ourself in the area we popped in.

I've quite seriously never seen some many tasty cars in such rough condition! Even my girlfriend was in shock.

Hmm, okkkkk??? Don't know what to make of this but i popped in Keighley one day on a passing visit and saw some of the most desirable jap imports which were just treated like dogs. Tried to speak to a salesman about an R34 V-Spec Nismo that caught my eye (as always biggrin ) and he just mumbled some crap and walked off. Obviously they have people who throw £50k at them all day long so he need not bother with me, amazing service.

Hi guys

Thought i'd keep you all informed, spoke to GTO Engineering today and they have a big box of goodies for the 250.
They already have my bonnet and boot that i've already paid for, it's now a case of shifting through the spares they have and then i should; all fingers crossed, take delivery of them in the next 2 weeks. Unfortunately until then i'll have no more updates.

I'll post some more pictures of the other cars that i've had but you'll just have to bear with me on the resto until i get the parts from GTO.

Cheers for all the comments
