Ah ... the D3 then... ceramic brakes ... mmmmm http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...
I used to own a 4.2 D2. It was a very nice barge but mine had problem with water in the A/C

If insurance would allow it, this would definitely be my number 1 choice for a luxo-barge.
Looks a good example too
Have you tried getting a quote? I don't find them all that outrageous. My A8 4.2 is considerably cheaper for me to insure than the usual hot hatch/rally rep suspects etc etc. Fairly outrageous straight line performance for a big car, superb for cruising and day to day stuff. For all the grunt of the top line luxo-barges, they are quite cheap to insure. Ideal day to day cars.Looks a good example too

Upgrade to the facelift-spec single frame grill bumper?
Freshens it up IMO
they are fitting a new bumper so I could have a word. Saying that, I do think it looks nice the way it is. Does the newer bumper bolt straight on? Then I'm probably into upgrading rear lights and a few other bits and pieces to stop it looking like a mish mash aren't I? Freshens it up IMO
