Yes; still registered, taxed & insured in the UK at my UK address.
Through my work I have an exemption to the normal rule of having to import a car after 6 months (having said that, none of my barges have actually lasted longer than that period ) - so I dont have to worry about that aspect. My insurance in the UK is TPFT with a company that provides a 365/365 green card. No probs there. I fully admit that it is 'cheating' somewhat, but seeing as I have the opportunity through my employer id be daft not to use it. My other two cars are on Dutch plates.
Thanks. So I just need to buy a house in the UK in order to get cheaper cars in Holland. I'm sure I can work that out with man maths. Does your Mrs know that every time you post a photo of her up here, she's making a funny face?
Glad the bus did well, I find that cars develop a real personality when you do a good road trip in them. How did you get on down the tiny Tuscan lanes in such a big old thing? I love Italian drivers, they are delightfully illogical and needlessly aggressive.

As my Alfa GTV got written off less than a week after getting it back on the road, I'm now back at looking at sensible dad type Volvo D5s etc
I wasn't looking for a GTV, I just bought it cos it was a opportunist bargain from a mate's next door neighbour.
Not sure my £2k budget is enough for a decent manual S/V70 though.... and it may not excite me enough like my current E35 525 Auto fails to do.

You wont get a V70 D5 for 2k unless you are lucky and its leggy. A 2.4D with the 130ish output is more likely to be possible, or even a very early (00-01) 'new' shape V70 with the older VAG sourced diesel unit.
Shame about the GTV - it seems we have similar taste in cars
I think a S70 D5 may be In range. I was tempted by an Alfa 156 today but the seller turned to to be a dick.Shame about the GTV - it seems we have similar taste in cars
You might be able to answer a question for me. Which models come with the Dolby stereo? There is a £2k S70 near me with 99k miles, but it's an S, not an SE.

1997 S70 brochure shows the Dolby system as an optional extra on ALL trim levels.

Im guessing it might have become std later in the model run....
If you are willing to sacrifice the estate, there are plenty of nice S60 D5s around for 2k.

I meant S60!!, i.e. the saloon version of what you have. My wife already has a dreadful to drive but very useful Zafira, so I don't really need an estate.http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/S70TechData1997.p...

That last one looks a bargain at £1500, but not sure I could live with a beige interior!

Well, thanks Alex.
You just cost me dearly...
A trip from Kent to Edinburgh to collect (bought blind) a V70.
Full Volvo history. Clutch, injectors, front wishbones, engine mount all changed in last 30k miles.
Just a 400 mile trip home. Barely time to play with the Dolby Pro Logic, leccy seats, climate control (when it's 13 deg C in the sun!), etc etc Still waiting to try the bi-Xenons, 7 seats, towing hitch and puddle lights. Seat heaters work though!
Cosmetically she has her bad points - but in 133k miles and 10 years that's what happens.
There are very few other cars I have experienced that come near this for comfort on the motorway.
So, thanks Alex...

How much if you don't mind me asking? I was after a S60 D5, but have ended up with a mint Merc C230k Sport. Not much difference then? You just cost me dearly...

Next job is to fix/replace the solenoid that auto-locks the door. Probably will attempt that tomorrow as it involves removing interior trim and im off to work in 20 mins.
For the fuel flap? Check that it's definantely not working as the fuel flap doesn't lock until around ten minutes after the car is locked. This is to give you time to fuel the car and when it doesn't lock with the cental locking many people assume it's broken. If you are talking about something else, ignore me...
A lex said:
I am indeed talking about that, but mine is definitely broken. After 10mins there is a buzz of the solenoid, but the pin doesnt slide across. Im hoping it just needs a strip and a lube
How did you have the patience to discover this? I have this vision of you crouching with your ear against the fuel flap of your Volvo for a whole 10 minutes waiting to hear it!Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
