Enjoy it OP - I had an M135i on one of the 2014 cheap lease deals for two years. It was bloody brilliant. It squirms about a bit if you're daft with it - such as flooring it from a standstill at a T-junction, but I absolutely loved the silky smooth power delivery coupled with the ZF 8 speed auto. That was a really cracking combo. It makes a lovely sound too and the power allows for effortless overtaking. And as others have said, you can see high 30s mpg on a decent motorway run if you stick to a steady 70mph. Don't bother with Eco Pro mode though as it really makes no difference to mpg compared to comfort and it ruins the throttle response.

I've since has a leased B9 1.4 TFSI Audi A4 and it's unbelievably boring. Can't wait to get rid!

Make the most of it! smile

And a grand day was had by all.

Today was collection day, and the wife unit and I rocked down to Lloyd BMW Newcastle to pick up the 140.

The car was prepped and waiting in one of their collection bays, albeit with a black sheet over it, which was pulled off to reveal the car. A bit cringe city, but I guess it's some people's bag and it would be boring if we all liked the same thing!

Once the sheet of cringe was dispatched, I grabbed a few terrible photo's with my iPhone, this is probably the cleanest it will ever be laugh

There wasn't much paperwork to sign, just a few last signatures and we were on our way. Lloyd threw in an M umbrella, for when I want to be "that official Merch guy" at a motorsport event of my choice laugh

First stop was the watering hole, the car came with 1/2 tank of fuel, so I brimmed it off, start as you mean to go on.

Yes, those are lightweight //M Motorsport flip flops.

After that I pulled up for about 20 minutes and just played about with stuff, got familiar with the car and generally had a fiddle. In rather more forgiving lighting I got a few better photo's. I really love the look of the car, and I'm pleased I went 3dr, I think it looks a little more muscular in the side profile.

The rest of the day I spent piling up the Hartside pass for a delicious cup of tea, and a bit of a scenic detour on the way back towards Newcastle. I've racked up a solid 209 miles today, so only 991 to go laugh

I'm aware some people will, and some people won't, however I personally am observing the 1200 mile run in. So I'm driving the car without labouring the engine too much, plenty of gear use, and not going over 4 / 4.5k rpm's. Even with this and as spirited a drive up Hartside and back as this will allow, according to the car I've averaged 32mpg today which seems very good. I imagine when it's run in, it'll be nearer 13.2mpg laugh

Plenty of initial thoughts, but it's late, and I'm at work until Wednesday, so I think I'll sit on them for a day or so and report back on Wednesday. I'm very happy with the car on the whole though, it's been a great day, wonderful to have it sat outside and have driven it today.

Looks great. Enjoy.

Re running in. I didnt really bother, took it steady-ish with the odd run up to about 5k for the first 500 miles, then pretty much drove it as normal from there.

5000 miles in. Not a drop of oil used (don't know how accurate the onboard measuring thing is) and dyno'd at 368hp.

Can't say as I remember any talk of a running in service on my 135i..?

Although it is an older engine so maybe things have changed.

I just took it easy for a few hundred miles. Only used 1l of oil in 12000 miles so I'd assume all is well.

Interesting. I'll see how I get on. The temptation to boot it is massive, but I'm a total bender for following instructions as well. Dilemma's laugh

368 is healthy! I don't think I've seen one make the quoted factory figure yet, the least I've seen is 350-odd.

They reckon it's more to do with bedding the piston rings in etc. You're spot on, there is no running in service for the engine, it's just good to go, so a lot of people don't worry about the running in period and boot it from day one.

I picked my M135i up from Stratstones in Newcastle and I asked the service manager about running it in and he said no need! I took it easy for about 800 miles then lost patience! I've had it 14 months now and I've just topped the oil up (1 litre) last week. The reading was near enough max in all that time then suddenly dropped (but still well within healthy levels) so just topped it up for piece of mind. It's only done 8500 miles though.

I half ran mine in. Salesman told me to take it easy for the first 500 or so miles in case anything wasn't right. After that gradually build it up. Biggest thing they say is not to let it sit at the same rev's for long periods of time.

I've had no issues so far other than the exhaust rattle. Mine dyno'd at 358 around 8000 miles in. I've not put any oil in mine either yet, just shy of 17,000 miles now and BMW say it's not due for another 4000!!!

I top up my M235i's oil roughly every 15,000-20,000 miles or so thanks to my salesman advising me to keep an eye on it.

I only do it when i have checked on the cars system for checking oil levels and I've seen it drop a fair amount.

Just wish it would tell me how much it needed.

Also just remember the cars service intervals do change depending on how you drive.

You can just decide to get it serviced before the car wants it, but if you have a service plan with BMW they will not pay for it.

If you want to see which bits need to be serviced when it's in vehicle information (that is also where your logbook data goes for that kind of service)

I ran mine in until 1200, and then increased the revs form there until around 2000 miles. Dropped the oil at around 1500 miles, completely unnecessary but plan on keeping it and wasn't a huge outlay for piece of mind. Ended up doing most of the running in miles in 2 weeks anyway, so wasn't too frustrating as in A1 traffic most of the time!

In the non service and mpg related section of this thread, I'd very much like to call out how nice the interior colour is.

Works a treat.

Mine is an orange car with black leather and the interior is somehat drab.

3 door in grey like the op but went with coral red. Looks really nice and I thought it wouldn't be hard to hide the dirt and denim dye. I was wrong :-(

The User Manual states 1200 mile run in period then slowly gaining revs and load after that.

Only 1 in 10 engines are bench tested. Transport mode stops the engine being ragged when in transport but it's possible it's been driven hard under the the PDI (but unlikely).

The run in period isn't just for the engine either way - it's all components, brakes, gearbox etc.

The 'sheet of cringe' had me laughing. I've never got who wants that, but I suppose they want to show why they're worth every penny!

Not as stock, BMW offer a drexler plate LSD, this comes complete, so you just swap the entire unit.

Quaife do one on exchange, you have to separate the crown wheel from the carrier, so you have to cannibalise a stock one to get the crown wheel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtREWyc8jJo

I presume its prohibitively expensive for them to make a crown wheel.

As said below, no it doesn't, I think the general consensus is that if a diff was on the options list it would put the car too close to the M2 for a significantly smaller outlay. Joe Achilles has done some interesting rolling vids with an M240i and an M2 and there's absolutely nothing in them side by side.

The BMW diff is around £2,500 plus fitting.
