Bugger. They are certainly thief magnets!

My mechanic mate who is helping has used exe-tc on a number of pretty high spec impreza rally cars and has nothing but good things to say. I had it in my head they were big money though. I guess spec drives price. £2k i could live with, £4k not.

Thanks!!

Nitron offer a matching set for £2600 (with 10% discount available for cash) which doesn't seem to be bad. Fronts have stub axles integrated and come with top mounts too.

I have an answer to the suspension conundrum. Custom made Bilstein coilovers! A local rally prep guy is doing them for me. Adjustable dampers, I’m going for 160 and 200lb springs.

Yes...yes...YES. Fully behind this thread OP. You'll have to bring it over here to a rally when its finished and confuse the locals!!! Or come over when the roads are quiet I can lend you some pacenotes if you feel like tackling some classic stage roads at a more...ahem...brisk pace.

Precisely!

I swithered between this and a plated diff, these are smooth and quiet and Quaife, stung by cheap Chinese copies, did another production run at £400 each which swung me.

When I build the big-power screamer I may end up switching diff!

Awesome, cheers hehe

I take it you’re in Ireland?!

I live in a fairly rural part of Scotland, it’s quite possible to go for an hours blast without seeing another car on a summers evening. It’s great!

I sure am, do a bit of rallying myself so how could I not be appreciative of an Irish tarmac inspired mk2! I’m down in Cork so I have great access to some great roads and routes here. They aren’t as isolated and quiet as yours I would say though. We rotate a weekday off in work though so I took off in the impreza with newly fitted works prodrive seats during the summer on my own and spent a day driving some of the rally of the lakes stages as it’s much quieter during the week but being so touristy it’s crazy at the weekends and cyclist heavy. Got a free run all the way up Molls Gap which is has never happened before as you’re bound to hit tourist traffic and that road is not wide but thankfully I got lucky. What a day.

Whenever you finish it and if you feel like driving some of the same roads, there’s a fantastic run here annually in May that does a fantastic and marshalled route down there, similar route to what I did in the summer, Healy pass included that does be awash with Mk2s amongst other bits of fine machinery and very well organised. Would be a great experience for you in your car if interested. I have a video somewhere and all you can see is a stream of stuff trailing up the pass.

Yeah I'd love to.

I'm actually from Duns so, as a boy, always attended the Jim Clark rally in the 90's. Spectacular.

Awesome. That's where my shell came from actually - chap called Andy Bushe? He's got an Atlas'd XE Chevette, used to rally a few other things and does some reasonably high level navigating too i believe. Really nice bloke and, i gather, quite well known.

I watched the rally of the lakes on sky this year (and re-watched the episode showing all the historics and modified cars about 5 times). I'd love to visit sometime.

Yes I know who that chap is, white Chevette isnt it? Had or still has a S1600 Saxo (one of my all time favourite rally cars) too iirc.

Rally of the lakes is 100% worth the trip. Nothing beats standing at the top of Molls Gap at 7 in the morning in the mist waiting to hear the howl of modified escorts approaching and emerging sideways from the fog with hundreds looking on! But you'll need to book accomodation at least 6 months in advance! And the prizegiving and piss up in the Gleneagle after is great craic although they had no band this year which was annoying as the previous year they had an amazing one. Still fun though.

Thinking of heading to the Irish Tarmac 40th anniversary celebration in Killarney in 2 weeks. They are trying to get as many past winners as possible. Billy Coleman, Austin McHale, Andrew Nesbitt all confirmed amongst many others. But I am going to Rallylegend next week so i might spend all my money there instead smile

There's a small foundry in Ireland making these - only suitable for dry sumps i think but i'm awfully tempted to buy one now in case supply dries up.
