Looks like a nice job being done. I'm amazed the sill was as intact as that to be honest!

If it is that bad Id look at the base of the A pillar behind the wings. Also Id look very carefully around the torsion carrier mounts.

Decided to do a couple of little bits on the center console while the cars at the welders, first up was to paint the silver bit black

i wasnt happy with the finish so it got sanded back and re painted

Still not 100% happy with it, few marks so will probably end up being done again once i pick up some filler or textured paint

as i had the gauges off i decided to swap some of the connectors to the correct sized ones

Hopefully the car will be back from the welders and i can continue chasing the running problem! and change the heater matrix then get it all back together!!!

It already has 924S clocks - shame they didnt use the black panel too.

I would be very interested to hear about your welder.

i have been wondering why the clocks have orange hands not like the yellow ones seen in most early 944's with the square dash, what do you want to know about the welder? he is a local one man band youngish guy, i had seen a couple of example of his work and it looked good enough to me so i got him to have a look at the car and he gave me a very reasonable quote!

I'd like to know whereabouts in the country he is, and also what sort of price he has quoted for which bits. I have two 944s which will need this and I spent multiple thousands on the last one, which Id prefer not to repeat.

Would be handy to know. A lot of the Porsche forums and clubs portray the idea that only a select few master craftsmen can handle the task of replacing the sills on a Porsche.
Really you just need to find someone with the skill who is interested in taking the time. That in itself is no easy task however.

Well yesterday i finally managed a bit of free time to check if the 944 was still where i left it!

i then pushed it out into the sun for the first time since the welding was completed

Yesterday job was to remove the ignition switch and check it for cracks as this can be a symptom of some of the electrical issues i have had with the car, of course the battery was also flat after sitting for a while, in order to get the switch out you have to remove the steering wheel stalks and some trim, as the car came with an aftermarket wheel it was only right that i fit my new MOMO at the same time

The ignition switch looked brand new of course, the wheel is just on temporary for now so i could get the car back in the garage,

Has the new switch mended it? Ignition switch failure was an issue 25yrs ago so usually the first thing to check. Dont be tempted by a cheap Mk1 Golf part. The lock enclosure and bolts are the same but the switch is different despite its common form factor.

Hi, It's nice to see an early model being resurrected, I'm sure that you'll have her running soon... good luck with the build.

Pete

edit: BTW, there are very good aftermarket body panels available for these cars, these are made using proper patterns, even the sill includes the 'diamond' indent. Probably a little late for you as I suspect your car is now welded but worth keeping a note of the company.
