Excellent thread.

I used to be a bit of a Volvo addict started when my parents got their first 850 T5 in 2001. I purchased my own one in 2004 at the age of 19, a beautiful deep mauve T5 estate from the chairman of Everton FC which I really miss. I keep being drawn to the T5s in the classifieds but most now are sadly in poor shape (unlike yours!). After my T5, I had a RICA mapped D5 which was a great all rounder but I missed the boxy shape so bought an S70 T5 CD with all the toys.

I see you are in East Sussex and mention Caffyns, so presume you mean either the Portslade or Eastbourne branch. Either way, you can't be too far away from me!

smile Crikey. I scanned through that. Splendid car. So many of the Rs seem to be autos frown
Many thanks, I know they are as it took me long enough to find a manual one! I think the auto was a no cost option on the R's.

Many thanks for the kind words. I think you got into them the same way I did as my dad got a black t5 estate in 1999. It sounds like you have had some nice volvo's over the last few years - the S70's are a more modern 850 anyway, I was considering S70R's at the same time I got mine but in the end I decided that I would have either as it is quite hard to find a manual..

Yes I took it to Eastbourne Caffyns to do the rear trailing arm bushes.

Thought I would post some pics of my nurburgring trip from 7th - 15th July 2010. Managed to do a few laps and the diff is brilliant, makes so much difference to the car on the track. Up the hill towards the carousel my o/s front wheel would spin for example, with the diff there is no chance of that. Very pleased with the car although I think I need to get a JT racing exhaust as the soundtrack was lacking!

In Belgium on the way down to the ring

In a field below the mini carousel when we went to watch some of the publc trackday

Inside Marks 940, he didnt get his t4 project finished in time (again!) Next time it will be going to the ring!

Various pics of my car on the circuit

And a pic taken on the way home

Many thanks for the kind words, thanks for reading. Bet the Cayenne would do similar round the nurburgring! smile
Lap time or MPG?!! It usually went around at 12mpg last I heard but often dipped to about 6 or 7 when the accelerator was pressed :P

Most cars will suffer under 10mpg when being thrashed about a racetrack.

Suspension set up :

An update at last! I took the car up to wheels in motion in Chesham, Buckinghamshire as I have heard so many good reviews from so many people. They set up all sorts of performance cars including time attack and drift cars.

First of all the car was put on the ramp and the current alignment, camber, caster etc of the car are displayed :

After analysing the data, they discussed with me the modifications that I had already done and how I plan to use the car : fast road / track use, and then adjustments are made.

The main adjustment was to reduce the camber from 2.5 ish degrees to 1.2 ish degrees which will improve the cars ability to put the power down and it raised the front up by 5mm. The distance between the centre of the wheel and the arch are now 300mm front and rear which I was recommended as a good base set up. After the adjustments are made, the new results are displayed :

Very impressed with the service, knowledge, equipment and value for money - I noticed the difference on the 100 odd mile return trip. Would recommend wheels in motion to anyone, very pleased.

Couldnt recommend them enough tbh, would be a good choice. Not sure on your spec, but they can even play around to a certain extent with standard set ups, for the money it was well worth it.

Long time no update - again!

For the last few weeks I have changed several service items :

Genuine Volvo :
Plugs
Fuel filter
Bougicord leads
Distributor cap
Rotar arm

Car drives much better now, can feel a few more bhp under my right foot!

Also thought I would add a few snow pics :

And the best bit for last :

I dropped my car to RT's on Saturday because this arrived from JT in Sweden :

And this :

Now looks like this :

Cant wait to pick it up next Saturday!
