The rear calliper had to be rebuilt. It snapped the sliders! So thats done and ive stuck some cheap ass pads on the rear as well until something else arrives wink

In the meantime - with the car fully driveable. A road trip was due! Can you guess what happened?!

Yeah it was MIJ again.

Vids will come shortly.

Im not going to lie its loud. Very loud. But it does still sit quietly on cruise control.

There is a massive hike in volume at 3k rpm. I call it V8-tec wink

So my brembos finally turned up! Parcel force 48 hour my bobby hole!

Anyway, sent them in to my mechanic. The car was just chucked back together on the rear from the breakdown with some cheap ass pads to keep it running. This was what they looked like after 1 week!!

The bad news was that everything was siezed. I mean everything. He said it was the worst brake job hes ever done. The metal slide was pushed off square by corrosion so the pads where actually buckling and bowing under braking. Explains the creaky noises when braking. The old pads where hammered out and both callipers rebuilt top to bottom and greased etc.

One side stripped

All back together

It took 3 days. 3 days of swearing, drilling out siezed bolts and making stuff move that no longer did. Even stayed till 11pm to get the job done on the third day, now thats dedication!

Love a good muffler-ectomy. I bought my S6 (same engine) with a decat and no rear boxes and it sounded great.

Was too loud for daily duties though so I had two straight through boxes put back in the rear.

Bet you have a lovely clear V8 burble with the seperated center boxes. thumbup

Are your exhausts tips in the same position both sides? Looks like the left is further in than the right from the pics.

Just seen this! That sounds awesome lol. Yeah it is a bit loud but i love it! The burble is addictive haha. Yeah they are the same just a dodgy angle lol

Unexpected garage trip!

Around 3 months ago i topped up the oil. I used a bottle of castrol out the garage. Its my step dads, feck it he dont use it lol. Noticed a bit of muck on the bottle, thought nothing of it. Few days ago did the same. Starting to worry as its burnt around 2 litres already. Grabbed the castrol popped the lid and noticed bits in it. Convinced if left the cap up i started to filter it out into a new can. Once a litre had gone through i looked at the filter paper:

That looks like the crud out the bottom of the fryer....

  • moves closer*
That smells like crisp n' dry. fk

  • rings stepdad*
Dave what do you do with the chip fat when you empty the fryer?!
You what?
Where do you put it?
In some old castrol tub in the garage why?!
Oh buggar.

So yeah i done 3k miles on chip fat instead of engine oil. Oops! Cars still fine and runs faultlessly so im feeling blessed!

So its just had a full service including sparks. The brakes have developed a squeak since bedding in so they were cleaned with a bigger chamfer. They have started to bed in again and wow these rebuilt calipers are now st hot! The pedal feels nice and solid not spongey and the car stops well. It would outbreak my old S4 with porsche 6 pots and even my old AMG with 8 pots.

Coming up soon is some more servicing. Gearbox, diffs. Also tackling the fuel pump issue and some LPG related gubbins!

Im really starting to love this car though. The way it sits, the way it looks, especially that rear!

Car has come back from the garage for the last time!

She has had:

- Full service with sparks and all filters
- New rear diff and transfer box oil
- Gearbox filter and new fluid
- New fuel pump

Currently running sweet as a nut and as ive not put the lpg tank back in yet, i have found out what happens on the overrun whilst in petrol mode!

Shots fired shots fired! Haha!

Is that new crisp n dry or proper oil?hehe

Cool car, was tempted by one a few weeks ago, it was cheap but fuel consumption scared me!
If im honest im driving like a cock at the moment to get it to pop and bang, and im struggling to get it under 17mpg which i know sounds bad but its a 4.2 afterall!

LPG helps alot. Only 12.5-16mpg on gas but its 50ppl.

30 quid gets me 200 miles.

Well alot has been happening.

Door handle went numb and wouldnt release from the inside. Stripped the door off and found this

Snapped the wire at the lock end, so ive ordered a new bowden cable from A8parts, as well as the door card clips.

Driving home last night. Hit something in the road, no idea what it was - done some damage though.

Ripped the sidewall and the alloy has a nice dent. Rang my breakdown and they arranged a tyre to be fitted at the side of the road. Wheel balanced up ok and no veering or wheel shudder so im calling that one a lucky escape!

Also went on a trip down memory lane to see my late nan and grandads house. Its been stripped and rebuilt and is now a huge mansion. Was going down a country lane near the house with cruise at 40, far too bumpy for 60. Its the normal speed i used to travel down there. Hit 2 bumps in succession and the car bottomed out HARD twice. Little bewildered as no other car has done that. Guess the S8 is a bit lower than i thought!

Main thing is i now have a fully functioning and legal lpg system.

Free sway bar haha

Carpet clipped back up to hide the tank (yes i know i need a clip in the middle lol)

The gearbox is fine as long as its services. Just had mine done and the fluid was black but no filings on the magnet! So i expect it to last a lot longer.
