I use a £12 durametric clone. You have to tell it the car is a 993 for some stuff (airbags) but it works for me.How are you reading your cam deviation figures??

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think I could just read one side or something on my car? It read all the over rev info too. I will double check as I haven't done it in a long while. Got to find a windows laptop first..... hate them.

Yes! I'd be really interested. Especially as an E46 M3 is on my list of engines I must own one day. I have "just kept it going and in good condition" rather than upgraded it.Excellent excellent thread.
Would be great if you could split the costs e.g. essentials Vs pure upgrades (I know sometimes it makes sense to replace a worn part with an upgrade, sometimes upgrades are actually cheaper than OE).
It's really hard to find the true cost of running an older car. New /nearly new it's easy as it's just depreciation plus servicing.

Did something like 6000 miles. Now on ~140k miles.
Just £289 spend for rear tyres, MOT test and service consumables.
Well the last work I did was to bleb some silicon in around the rotted out rear bumper heat shield mounts.
These heat shields are thin alloy held with steel fasteners - so galvanic corrosion sets in making a hole in the shield around the fasteners.
As a temporary fix I blebbed some silicon around the mount to stop them rattling. Next time I have reason to take the bumper off I will find a way of reaffixing them properly or buy new ones.
The key remote has eaten 3 batteries quickly but seems to be lasting well on the 4th. Maybe a bad batch.
Oh and cleaned out the ISV with carb cleaner as detailed above to get my rock steady idle back.
This still stands:
