Got around to fitting a new part, airbox dampener I guess you could call it. The original is snapped allowing free movement of the airbox.

I found from a duct tape trial that keeping it still makes the engine noise quieter must have been rattling like crazy.

An easy switch over. Checked the air filter for the first time today too, rusty screws made me nervous but it looks brand spanking new thankfully.

Oh and I really need to clean the bay following the headlight polish!!

I've now done about 5,000 miles in it averaging 52mpg. If it died tomorrow and I got nothing for the stereo and scrap its cost me 22p per mile (getting lower as it lives longer ) , plus on average 11p per mile in fuel.

For just 33p per mile, you too could drive an Astra 1.7d cdti Design

I paid 650 and think you'll struggle to get a better car for the money. I was lucky in that mine was owned by a work colleague and prior, his dad so knew it had been looked after.

Main thing is cambelt on all engines is often skipped as at 10 years old it's due and not worth much, most don't bother.

I see a lot of petrol ones on Facebook with head gaskets gone , the 1.7d seems pretty good so far.

i can see a 1.6 2006 Astra with 130k on the clock for £800 near where I live

do you think its a gamble to get such a high mileage one and its a private seller so what do you think the ideal price should be for it,has almost an years MOT
At this price point you can't be fussy, if it's got a years MOT and it's had the cambelt I'd at least view it and make your own mind.
