Recent spend is about £20 on a set of Bosch wipers and then applied some Rain-X to the windscreen. Wow what a revelation! I'll no longer scrimp on sheight wipers from now on that's for sure. I actually look forward to it raining now!
I thought Rain-X was considered to be spawn of the devil?
Aye it certainly is.... in my defence it's an ancient bottle which I need to use up

How does that point to a duff clutch? You'd expect the revs to raise as the clutch slips cos the car is trying to maintain speed would you not?

Well, you'd actually expect the CC to turn off as it senses the clutch being put in...
I'd just assumed it was the clutch as I've not had the issue on any of my old cars before but I'm happy to hear any suggestions or thoughts from anyone who might have a better idea of what it might be

Following on from the clutch/cruise control issue - someone in the shed thread suggested it might be the clutch pedal sensor so I went on eBay and bought one for £6 delivered.

Fitting it was a challenge, I had to put my head where my feet would normally be and my feet where my head should be to get it fitted properly!

Hasn't fixed it sadly so I've now accepted that the Focus behaves differently to any other car I've driven with CC including my current Evora and my Clio.

Currently owes me £1,401.53 which equates to £0.24 per mile (in comparison my Clio has cost me £162.98 per mile but largely because I never drive it!)

I'm finding that it averages 31-33mpg for me which is mainly due to the stop/start commuting I do Monday to Friday

I sold mine a few weeks ago - including the Volvo engine cover.

Didn't put much of a foot wrong in the 12 months I owned mine (apart from that spark plug / HT lead / Coil pack issue we've all had!)
What did you replace it with?

Been using one of my other cars this week to commute but had to use the Focus for the first time since probably Friday (so, 7 days) and it wouldn't start first time. Or second time. I had to give it a few revs to get it going and once it was I had to keep the revs up until it idled itself. There was a cloud of white smoke out the back.

Any ideas? Battery is new.

Alternator? How old is it
That's what I thought too... especially as when the RAC did a check when I broke down a few months back they diagnosed a flat/duff battery and a weak alternator. However some posters here were somewhat sceptical about their diagnosis of the alternator so I didn't think to replace it. I might now have to start looking for an alternator then frown

Do you have a voltmeter? Should be 12+V when stood and 14.4V at idle.
Sadly not. All the tools to do any job are at my parents' house and I can't go over there at the moment.

I suppose they can stay in the house and I could work in their driveway/garage without coming into contact with them idea

I think I'll just bite the bullet and get a cheapy alternator from eBay and fit that

Well the Focus went on to pastures new yesterday, for £475.

So not a bad return for 11 months motoring smile

It's made way for a Mk5 Golf GTI
