BMW E90 330D M Sport
Discussion
Ok, so this is my new 2007 BMW 3 Series Sedan E90 330D M Sport. Ok so its not as glamorous as some of the cars on here, but its probably the best car i have personally owned.
Black Sapphire Metallic and 54k on the clock. Comes with M Sport package, 6-Speed Manual, High gloss shadowline, exterior lights package, 18" MV3 Alloy, black Dakota leather interior, front & rear armrest, black roof lining & pillars, Multifunction steering wheel, dual climate control, Auxiliary heating, iDrive widescreen Sat-nav system & BMW Professional Stereo, AUX port, front\rear electric windows and mirrors, remote locking, ABS, PAS, Traction Control, headlight washers, cruise control with brake function, auto lights & wipers, auto dimming interior mirror, reverse parking sensors with distance control, hands-free Bluetooth, voice control, BMW Assist, , smoker package, full BMW service history.
The M Sport models come with 18" MV3 alloys, sport front & rear bumpers, sideskirts, sports springs, sport steering wheel, sport leather gearknob etc
Kinda wish id stuck out and gone for a facelift LCI 2009 model with more extras like sunroof, folding mirrors, heated seats and xenons as these things are a pain to retrofit anything without extra wiring and BMW coding
already started a few things by removing the rear badges and adding some ///M car matts.

Lovely, what year? My parents have a 2006 330d touring, same colour as yours but with Dakota lemon interior and an auto box. Their car has just ticked over 100k and wheel/tyre issues aside has been faultless. I've always wondered how fast it would go if the limiter were removed, it is certainly keen enough to butt into it.
Its a 2007. Its a perfect daily with a good balance of performance and economy.Started by changing a few things
Gave the car a service with a new pollen filter, 7.5L Castrol Edge 0W-30 & oil filter, K&N OEM fit filter. Cant believe how big the K&N and the pollen filter are
K&N Filter next to 1.5L Pepsi
K&N was a complete bugger to fit as you have to take half the bloody engine out to get to it. Car seems to rev more freely with this fitted.

then made a few exterior modifications
Heko wind delectors. i actually removed the rear ones and just left the fronts on, as the rears looked stupid
Matt black front kidney grills to replace the chrome ones (not a fan of exterior chrome. Also put some black gloss vinyl wrap on the blue parts of the BMW badge

next up was a change of wheel. I wanted to keep with a traditional style BMW wheel and opted for a staggered set of 19" OEMS 111 (8.5j front, 9.5j rear), which are basically a cheaper replica of 3SDM 0.06.
I opted for Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta Front Tyres 225/35/19, Falken Azenis FR-453 Rear Tyres 255/30/19
also had 4 wheel laser alignment with toe and camber adjustment when i had the tyres fitted. Iam also planning on putting some BMW centre caps on to make it a little more OEM looking
19" New v 18" standard
Even with m sport springs the ride looks a little high on the new wheels.

Turn my attention to the interior again as i wasn't happy with the amount of standard aluminum trim in the cabin. Wanted to get some carbon trim but the original trim from BMW was going to cost in the region of £800, so i forked out £20 on some 4D carbon wrap and did it myself. Also added some E90 LCI (2009 onwards) front cupholders. Like the originals but with some small silver detailing on them.

Gave the car a quick detail with some Dodo Juice products after changing a few things.
I removed the rear wind deflectors as they just didn't look right to me. Also returned the Depo LED rear lights as some of the LEDs on the rear strip stopped working and LED's just didn't seem to suit the car, so opted for some good old fashioned Genuine BMW Blackline rear lights.

Very nice motor OP, we had a 2006 E90 330d for 6 years and loved it to bits so much so that I have currently got a 2006 E90 330i as I think they make cracking all rounder`s, both were left standard though...because I am an old git!!!
Like the changes you have made...you don't half get stuck in, just the black grills I am not a fan of but appreciate there isn't any other chrome bits on the car.
Enjoy it they offer great performance coupled with great economy...that's the problem with my 330i once you start using the throttle it soon drops below 20 mpg but you don't get that problem with the 330d as it offers the best of both worlds.
thank you, yes some people dont like the black grills, for me iam not a fan of chrome and with so many BMW's on the road, was trying to make it a little different, plus i have the black edging around the windows etc. I probably would of opted for the 330i or the 335i aswell if i didn't have to do so much millage for work. Iam seeing an avergae of about 40 mpg mixed with motorway and london traffic which iam happy with given the performanceLike the changes you have made...you don't half get stuck in, just the black grills I am not a fan of but appreciate there isn't any other chrome bits on the car.

Nice job on the wrap.
Sorry, but did you really say 'sedan'?
cheers. the wraps a right pain in the bum hole, took a few attempts to get it right. I used a hair dryer to warm it up to help stretch it around the corners.Sorry, but did you really say 'sedan'?
Yes BMW E90 Sedan, google it. loads of pics come up. Iam guessing it just means 4 doors and not a coupe ?

Yes I am a massive fan of yours and to be honest if I was doing more miles I would have gone with the 330d again as the 330i has nowhere near the mid range shove of the 330d, that mpg figure is impressive, I love how you have got stuck into the car and made it lovely and individual.
I would of loved an M3, but the low MPG, high tax band and high insurance and running costs given my millage would of been impossible. Would be nice if i could afford one as weekend car.Future plans include:
Genuine BMW Performance rear diffuser
335D\335i style rear exhaust (i like the symmetric look)
DPF Delete & coding
Retrorfit Genuine BMW adaptive Xeon Angel Eye Headlights
Retroifit power folding mirrors
Retrofit Harman Kardon Logic 7 Sound System
Retrofit iDrive 2009 HD screen sat-nav system
Retrofit Folding Split Rear Seats
BMW Performance 6-Pot Big Brake System front & back (by Brembo)

You did a much better job on the wrap than I did! I have no patience.
Americanisms irritate the hell out of me. Saloon.
cheers, it does take some time and patience to get it right, so it is an american term then ?Americanisms irritate the hell out of me. Saloon.

I think a M3 would work better as a weekend car to be honest, I ran a M3 as a daily and I prefer my 330i as it pretty much does everything the M3 did for the majority of the time anyway but doesn't pull your pants down regards running costs as the M3 doesn't offer enough reward for me personally to justify its running costs.
yes thats what i thought. You've had your fair share of BMW's then ?Edited by 95 fiesta si on Sunday 13th April 22:14

Yes owned six of them now including two "M" cars, I am a really big fan of the marque but when I say I love the E90 330d I genuinely mean it, they are spot on and you have made a great choice imo.
Thanks. I did contemplate a 335D, but the higher asking price and slightly lower MPG put it me off a little. Plus they only come in an Auto. Not having ever owned one i dont know how id feel about an Auto, i might of loved it with the paddle shifts behind the steering wheel. Guess i played it safe with the 330D manualcerb4.5lee said:
It is a difficult one as I really wanted my M3 as a manual so I purchased it with one but the 330d was an Auto and in many ways it suits the torque characteristics of the engine but my 330i is an Auto and I made a big mistake and I wished I had held out for a manual as the petrol engine just doesn't suit an Auto.
I was exactly like you though I have always liked the idea of a 335d but Auto only put me off as its not a great Auto either imo but I suppose it does keep you in the power band of a diesel power plant... its a tricky one to be honest.
Thanks, I might test drive a 335D just to see what its like.I was exactly like you though I have always liked the idea of a 335d but Auto only put me off as its not a great Auto either imo but I suppose it does keep you in the power band of a diesel power plant... its a tricky one to be honest.

Wow, that is stunning. Tasteful mods that really do improve the look of the car I reckon. I was really amazed by the carbon wrap inside, looks fantastic!
What's she like after the remap by Simon? Noticeably better?
Thanks. Yes the map gained 40 BHP and 100 NM of torque still using the standard clutch, The car feels very different, just has that extra kick when you need it over standard form. Very happy with the map. What's she like after the remap by Simon? Noticeably better?
