My Lamborghini Gallardo 5.0 V10
Discussion
You're a brave man going to Ushaw in that, as I know what the parking is like ! I wouldn't take my car as its too low for the rough pot holed 'road' and the long grassy areas in the visitors parking areas. I didn't get there today, but hope you enjoyed it . I think its a great venue and attracts a whole mix of cars and bikes.
Lovely car you have there too.

Lovely car in the best colour. Envious me? No siree Bob not me...OK, just a bit. I've been trying to get into one of these on track for years and failed miserably. Tried a supercar day only to find the Gallardo fully booked out (after an organisational screw up) and had to swap over to a manual 911 turbo - which was frankly awesome.
Adding to my disappointment we (instructor) found the Gallardo trundling around at 30mph in front. Even crawling until we were nearly a lap behind we were still subsequently baulked by the very car I desperately wanted to drive.
Very brave taking it into that long grass. I've been directed across similar only to have the car crash to a halt against a hidden raised metal access cover. Mangled the four point chassis brace. I was well pleased...

They are absolutely epic, you really should try again to get into one. It never fails to bring a smile to my face! OK, just a bit. I've just given it a little clean ready for Black Horse Beamish meet tomorrow night

5.2L of naturally aspirated V10 loveliness though...

p4cks, how are you finding the gearing? I understand the <MY06 cars are longer geared. Is it noticeable?
I've never driven any other Gallardo so I'm sadly unable to offer any great deal of certainty. The gearing is long though, which is great because you can hear that V10 moan, shout, then squeel!Clutch is only about £4K to change so just factor it in - cats are £2K (well, my Larini cats were) and other than that it's a pretty solid engine. Although keep an eye out for oil leaks underneath the centre of the engine, common issue and relatively straightforward to sort - there'll be oil on the ground.
The 5.0 V10 is definitely the one to have IMO - the noise compared to the 5.2 is a lot more 'racey' due to the different firing order. It's like a symphony orchestra compared to a brass band

This thread has inspired me to go see some (e-gear) 5.0s this weekend.. Any last minute advice? Main things seem to be clutch and cats?

Cat
Ask if the cat has been changed to an aftermarket one and when. The sooner in the engine life, the better.
Also get the seller to rev the engine, whilst enjoying the sound, note if the exhaust is looking like a steam train on full pelt. If it is, then that's a £20k bill looking at you.

Fair one. It was more in response to a Fifth Gear piece I watched recently; where Tiff complained it made spirited driving hard work (in the gated manual at least). Although perhaps the E-gear set-up is actually better suited, since it can rev-match on downshifts perfectly every time, making it easier to blend 1st gear on tricky/tight bends. Despite being a Ferrari-man; I've always had the want for one of these, since their launch. And quotes such as below doesn't help suppress the want either:

Enjoyable read, and mint car. Keep the updates coming!

That definitely isn't my experience... the e-Gear on Sport Mode when your foot is planted is like nothing I've never felt ever... it's almost instant and achieved by the flick of a single finger. Almost zero effort Cheers guys, appreciate the info...
And apologies to OP for taking the thread OT!

With regard to this specifically, what's the issue/price to sort? Thinking of potential negotiation points. Hoofy said:

Does the cat ingestion happen over time? Or over quite a short space of time and will be easy to spot? Ask if the cat has been changed to an aftermarket one and when. The sooner in the engine life, the better.

Ah no worries at all man. Leak wise it's likely to be the oil filter pipe seal which is £3.50 from Lambo, and can be done DIY if you're handy but if not a few hundred quid labour as the plenum and manifolds need to be removed. Cats, are preventative. Mine were removed at 35K miles and are perfect but for a couple of grand to save a £30K+ rebuild it makes sense.
Separately I'd also recommend sourcing as many parts yourself away from Lamborghini. My recent spend could have been halved by planning and getting parts from elsewhere (exhzust clamps and oil filter housing gasket)
