The Alpina Project
Discussion
Just read thread from start (only distractions being loud tuts from Mrs1602!) and great to see it back on the road and being enjoyed. In fact the only negative is the reminder that I sold my E21 TWR/Alpina 335 when I should have just put it away until I could muster more enthusiasm after the problems I had with the 'restorer' I'd used. I know they're a heavy old lump but I love M30's myself. Anyway, look forward to seeing further updates.
Little update I've done 370 miles now and nothings fallen off!
I popped up to CPC the other saturday came away with a few new spares and a good chat catch up. Phil's a genius
A spare turbo and 2 wastegates and the petrol flap off the original car! The only bit left of the shell now sadly
Had the bonnet up and a little poke around see how things are
both belts felt loose, maybe from just everything settling down after some real use at last. Any how i adjusted both belts as they were slack.
I'd also noticed a bit of oil on the drive
when adjusting the belts i needed the car in the air to do the power steering belt and this seems to be the leak. I've nipped up the 22mm banjo bolt and will keep an eye on it as this looks to be the leak
clipped a kerb in a LHD moment like a tool. Luckily the tyre took damage and the wheel is ok and front spoiler
I also broke down, 200 yards from home. It had run out of petrol.....kids were eating dinner and wife was pissed at coming out for a push to the side of the road, ha ha. Even more so when it just needed fuel lol
So 2 new tyres on order for the front and grounded until then as that bulge wouldn't be too clever to drive on. Desperate for the rolling road to re open. As its torture driving and keeping it sensible but the little mid range i've used is punchy. No red line action as i don't want to melt anything from possibly running lean
I had it snaking laying 11's up the road in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th in the wet the other day and keeping the revs under 3500rpm! love it

i've driven about 700 miles now and all is good. Its been hard not driving it hard aswell without knowing whats going on properly with the engine
Yesterday i was finally able to put the car on the dyno due to covid restrictions relaxing and see how things are, back to Charlie who started this whole project.
As i imagined, im running lean with 372bhp and 450lbs. But it appears my rev counter is not reading correctly for some reason which i do not know why but explains why it seems so long geared and would explain alot on that front. The rev counter should be reading nearly double what it does it seems. So plenty to sort out still and decide the best route but theres a fair bit of more power locked in there with the fueling mapping sorted
